So, I'm looking into getting a new computer. For multiboxing. A lot of multiboxing. Basically I'm asking the same questions as the OP of this thread that I found searching here:

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1995371

However, just when that thread was about to get interesting regarding if EVE uses more floating point or integer calculations, the thread simply STOPPED! It was an absolute outrage. How am I meant to make my CPU decision if I do not know this?!

I have no idea how the code behind EVE works and I don't even want to speculate whether it uses more integers or FPs. If it uses a lot of integers, that's great, I'll get a FX8350 and it will be awesome. If not, I must get some Intel quad core for better performance.

I don't think I EVER use LESS than 8 clients, so single threaded performance is simply not an issue. But if this supposed 8 core is bogged down with floating point calcs to the point where it's just a fat quad core, it's a bit pointless.

Help pls.

I'm running AMD, FX 8120 black edition

but if I built another system it would be with a fat i7

you could go dual i7?

How much % CPU do your EVE clients use on avergae with your FX? Assuming low settings of course.

For reference, on low settings with my old Q6600 clocked at 3.2ghz, if I restrict an EVE client to one core and restrict everything else to different cores, then take an average of the cpu usage graph having flown around in space for a while, the single-core usage for a single EVE client is around 25-33%. Spiking to 100% for around 2 seconds on loading screens such as character loading.

So my Q6600 theoretical maximum is probably 12-16 clients. Hence the need to upgrade! What would be really good would be if some other people could do the same experiment I did above and tell me what the CPU usage was!

to copy and paste my post in the EVE client crashing thread:

Task Manager readout for 5 clients:

in Hangar

then in CQ

back to Hangar

back to CQ

I'll go back and see what the per-core usage is. how did you set a client to a specific core? I didn't know that was possible. also, I am not sure which clients are paired with each other to do so

I run five clients on high with dual ASUS Radeon HD7970s in crossfire.

setup

I also get 100% spikes in client changeovers

btw: I went with the 8120 black edition because it was on sale for $120 at Fry's, -and- they did not have the 8350 in stock. otherwise, I would have picked the 8350

///cpu, RAM, disk use in space, in hangar, etc

funny thing is, the highest readings were in CQ. and that's what people cry for

Task manager.
Processes tab.
Click on process, right click, "Set Affinity..."

P.S. There's probably some way to automate it on launch too, but I've never tried to find out how.

Seems that you can find the affinity settings under Details tab in windows 8 now.

You can do this with a batch file, I used to do the same with skyrim. You make a file that when executed launches the game client with the desired specifications. The problem is, EVE has that pesky launcher.

You can start EVE without the launcher. Just run "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\exefile.exe"
