never understood why WiS has to be some complicated complex combat adventure thing

The idea sounded cool when the vision was presented at Fanfest, but after the complete failure that was WiS it's something that needs to stay shelved, permanently. Stick to spaceships in space.

I'm just really in disagreement with this. Yeah, Incarna was kind of bad, but i think that if CCP can get their design **** together I think that they can actually gives us the kind of content we should expect out of CCP. (This last statement is not a troll.)

The only problem with Incarna was it was advertised and presented as a full-on expansion, but arrived half-baked and only one of four CQ's completed.

Disappointing yes, but the feature still has tremendous potential.

it takes more juice than the game that's sort of ridiculous.

my PSU fan comes on everytime I enter CQ.

Sometimes I like to sit and drink a beer and stare at FlumZ on TV for a bit. someone really needs to shoot him a lot.

WiS was a great idea that got bitchslapped with :awesome:

Now let it just die like COSMOS and all other unfinished features.

Mine doesn't and it's not that fancy (nVidia gt260) with all settings on high.

Have you installed and run SpeedFan, and checked your card's max temp specification to see what's really going on or if there is even cause to worry ?

The better idea is to finish them.

Why all the grumpy 'give-ups' lately ?

Yup. Incarna failed because their process was crap, and they were looking well beyond the game into high-fashion interactive virtual reality (I'm not kidding) and other tangencies. From what I can see of their new process and their renewed commitment to the game, any subsequent iterations on Incarna content will not suffer from :18months:. Also, the last expansion in particular has given me hope that the team of Unifex, Seagull and Ripley can deliver.

This is awesome in its own way. Obviously, far more work was done on station environments than what we see.

i think i maybe got it wrong and it's the card's fans not the PSU fan. which is less worrisome.

launching CQ can kick it up to over 50C though, according to MSI afterburner.

My nvidia gt260 max temp is 105 C. And that's common apparently, so what's the issue ?

none apparently, except that rendering my CQ apparently takes more juice than everything on grid at dodixie and that's with a 660ti.

Your card is rated at 97 C max. Again, why the concern ?

I think the folks who hated Incarna WIS were just trying to stir up drama with "hot video cards", which may be true but most of the time with a descent card means absolutely nothing. The fan kicking on is just a sign that it is doing its job.

What was all the money spent for with an expensive card if it's not even pushed to half it's limit ?

I'm less concerned about my video card as I am about the future of WiS if rendering one room and character causes my card to behave like I just launched BF3.

Again, the card is just doing it's job and is not in any danger.

What is so hard to grasp about this ?

Moving forward with WiS, would entail deleting it, IMO.

Well, no; the performance problem was real at the Incarna release.

Not only overheatting, in general CQ rendering was a severe load for the client. And the code was bugged as well. I think this made impossible to release a multiuser avatar envinronment without allocating enough resources for several months after Incarna. And CCP resources were (as still are) absorbed by Dust.

So, not being able to deliver a multiuser setting any further impementation lost sense.

But anyway in all the expansions after Incarna (till retribution) they kept reiterating on CQ fixing rendering bugs and optizzing the code. Now seems pretty polished and stable to me. On my nvidia gt250 I have no problem in running 2 clients with CQ at max graphic settings and even after almost 2 years still the best avatar engine on the market.

I think the elements for a limited (5-10 avatar) multiusers envinroments are all already in, they only need to be rearranged and provided with a UI.

Don't forget a large trash chute for disposing the remains of officers who have disappointed your leaders.

They promised me i'll be able to throw grenades at other players' avatars when in station and steal whatever they had in their pockets.

And then beat them in an turn-based minigame and take whatever money they had left.

And after that, invite them to a drink at my corp's strip club.

... THEY STILL DIDN'T FULFILL THEIR PROMISE.
