My friend and I are going to fan fest this year, and are planning on arriving a week and a half prior to the event. We are hoping to spend the first week traveling around Iceland, but neither of us have the funds to rent a car in addition to paying lodgings. We are looking for someone, who either has been to iceland on vacation or lives there, that can give us some advice and information about traveling in iceland. Public transportation seems to be in existence, but is hard to figure out (we only speak english, lame-ass american education system). We are planning on staying in hostels for the first week, and renting an apartment (this part we have figured out) in Reykjavik for the week prior to fan fest, and the weekend of fan fest.

Is there anyone that could help us with some information on hostels and transportation outside of of reykjavik?

I hear you're supposed to crawl from pub to pub, no need for a car

that I should worry about losing my hearing is nonsense, because there will always be -=BASS=-

When we were looking into hotels and so on i came across a review that mention that you can buy buss passes that lasts for 1,2 or 3 days at one of the tourist centers i think it was. If i remember correctly it also mentioned that those passes would grant you acess to certain museums and similar. But someone who has been there or lives there would have to confirm this since i can not remember were i read this.
The closest i could find was this; An Omnibus Passport sold at tourist information centers covers unlimited trips on virtually all scheduled bus routes except through the interior. Time spans for these passes range from 1 week 29,938kr ($479/£240) to 1 month 59,938kr ($959/£480).

This looks like the pass i read about that covers other things like museums; http://www.iheartreykjavik.net/2011/07/tip-of-the-day-buy-the-reykjavik-welcome-card/

For language difficulties... Ironically enough one of our corp members is a bus driver in Iceland and from what i have understood they are very used to English speakers, so language shouldent be a problem. If you are in doubt when it comes to pronuncing the name of a certain place i would just write down the name on a note and show that to the bus driver to make 100% sure.

Good luck and enjoy your vacation!

don't forget Iceland is near the top of the world so you really have to hold onto the ground to keep from falling off!
