does anyone actually ever fight in PvP?

I've been trying to get into pvp in eve because I hear it's the greatest thing ever and after coming back from 3 years away I want to get away from pve. I had 4 days in a row off work and spent half a billion isk on full T2 fitted T1 frigates.

But so far i'm getting the impression that pvp in eve is a lot of waiting and not ever any fighting. here's my experience

i'm solo and someone in a T2 ship that i have no chance to beat at all warps in and blows me up in under 10 seconds. One guy I actually gave a good fight to and had an enjoyable chat afterwards.

So thinking maybe I just need one or two to group I spent 4 hours in chat trying to find someone to tag along with but out of the 244 people in militia chat not a single person seemed to care at all about actually fighting or doing something. So I joined with 4 other noobs to strike out on our own. We spent 3 hours wanding around not able to find anyone who actually wanted to fight us until 20 enemies showed up. I'm thinking "ok, call in militia get about 5 more people added to our group and strike back, this'll be fun. we'll probably lose still but at least it'll be a battle and we'll learn something. worst that happens is i lose a 15mil throw away ship" again the amarr militia chat has 250 people in it and not one single pilot actually wants to do anything but sit in a station and chat.

So then I try to join a big fleet thinking maybe people with experience know how to get into a fight....5 hours of jumping back and forth through the same gate with no one wanting to engage anything.

so pvp in eve seems to be a lot of sitting around doing nothing and no one wants to actually fight and is a complete waste of my time. I've had more fun clipping my toenails.

What you do is PVE in a dangerous area.

Bring friends with logi and do missions or sites as a small fleet. If someone wants to rumble they'll come to you. If not, you'll just keep making money to replace the inevitable losses.

We PVP all day, every day in RvB. Of course, some people will say what we do isn't "real" PVP, but ships are exploding, and that's all that matters.

Good luck to you!

that's what I want. I spent a boat load (by my standards half a billion is close to all my isk) on ships that I knew I would lose easily since I'm new to pvp. But I had trouble finding anyone who wanted to shoot at me unless it was 20 to one and then you aren't learning anything. It was the most boring waste of time ever. Even when i was in the fleet i was thinking...."uh why aren't we attack anything we run across" Oh yeah because we are an equal match instead of vastly outnumbering them and that would be a shame to have to win with skill......

I'll be leaving faction war and trying RvB to see if people aren't too afraid to lose a couple million ISk and actually fight.

VERY few are looking for "fair" fights, so people will engage if they think they can beat you, and otherwise run away if they think they're going to lose.

Also very few are PVP'ing just for giggles; ships cost money to replace, so EVE PVP isn't an e-sport like in other games, where you can graveyard-zerg and duel "just for fun". People tend to have some sort of goal when they do undock, either to take some territory, or to gank some easy target that they've already stalked, or if it's truly just for fun they're going to head out into 0.0 or wormhole space where they can find A LOT of "easy" targets.

Finally, if you ask in chat "anyone want to PVP" or "anyone want to fight me?" you won't get anyone, because all the empire carebears will think you're an experienced pirate and will kill them. Instead, say something like "Help, I'm stuck in (some lowsec system), can anyone come help me get out?" Or "anybody want to do this (lowsec) exploration site with me?"

But, yeah, you are right, the game's fighting mechanics are some preparation and a lot of waiting for 10 seconds of actual shooting, IF you're lucky to get it. And trying to pick-up / randomly find people, you're not going to get lucky much.

You should join Red vs. Blue or some other PVP corp that's frigate-focused and looking to PVP just for fun. Or find a pirate corp and move to their space in lowsec, or find a null corp and move there. Providence area is open to neutrals, and there are plenty of fights there, contact the people there, see what's up, or just go.

Being solo and looking for a fight...yes there is waiting involved and carefully picking the fights you find.

Being in a corp...fight chances increase.

Being in SOV...it depends where you are and who you are with.

Being in FW corp...plenty of PVP.

Being in RvB...undock, fight, die, reship, undock, fight, die, reship..................

Edit:

NPC FW corp isnt the best community because its NPC. No common goals etc and plenty of spies and farmers.

Definately come play with us in RvB, pick a side (Blue is best Pirate ) and undock. Usually there's a fleet up, and if you want to run solo there's plenty of pilots who will not only go a round or two with you, but also talk to you afterwards about how things could have gone differently.

see what was strange is i couldn't even find anyone who wanted a semi-even battle. There were several points where my little group of 4 noobs would find 2 T2 enemies who still would most likely destroy us with little effort and they ran away constantly until they came back with 9 friends.

I can understand not wanting to join a fight you know your'e going to lose...but what fun is the game if you only ever fight battles that you could win while afk? I guess I just don't see losing a couple million isk as a reason to avoid ever having any fun in the game.

I mean when the 9 players came to take a plex from the group of 4 noobs i was with I can't understand how not a single person in our militia replied "yeah I'll join you guys to go back after them, sounds fun." like everyone is so against any sort of actual conflict in what they like to call the best pvp mmo ever....it baffles me.

I'm definitely giving this a try. I want to pvp with people who don't care if they lose a ship and are in it for the fun and challenge.

I have an alt in RvB.

If I want PvP with hours of preperation and waiting, I fight in the nullsec wars.

If I just want to PvP for fun fights and no waiting...I lof in the alt, join the fleet that is usually up of just ask around to find a fight....and go PvP till I'm done with playing.

Thats because NPC FW corp has a truckload of LP farmers.

RvB (I agree...Blue is best. Smurfs rule the world) doesnt give a **** about ship safety.

They love explosions. On my cellphone otherwise would have linked some killboards and stats about their MassFFA events.

Hey - Nothing wrong with sticking around for the LP in a plex. Helps the war and gets iskies.

Nothing wrong with running from a fight either if you can if it seems that you are obviously overmatched. That is not being "risk averse", that is trying to be smart. No... I will not hang around when someone with a 2007 character comes rolling through in his T2 fitted dramiel with his buddy in the thrasher in tow if I am alone in a sentinel or slicer!

But, do join an actual FW corp. It is much funner with corp mates and corp chat. NPC corps seem like such bummers in my opinion.

We do love our explosions, even when it's our own...the bigger the better! We're already planning FFA number 4, rumor has it there will be 50,000 frigates to blow up for that one, and maybe this time we wont be competing with a titan jumping ;)

For reference, our killboards:

Red Federation - http://rvbeve.com/red/?a=home
Blue Republic - http://rvbeve.com/blue/?a=home
And RvB's Purple - http://rvbeve.com/purple/?a=home

Hopefully that gives you some idea of how often things explode, and how many ships we blow up.

FW is actually probably more your bag if you're out there solo, the objectives are size-category-locked so you have some approximation of a "fair fight" in most engagements, and there are a fuckload of us in the contested areas.
