This is why i love hailing from the countryside. I always knew where our meat came from, since we had it all slaughtered at my uncles farm and delivered fresh and made our own mince etc.

Besides, while yes, the mislabelling is criminally wrong (who knows what else has been done on the side) a bit of horse wont hurt you.

That is unless you come behind and it kicks you in the head.

Honestly, between this travesty and 80% mislabeled fish in the USA, the entire world's food distribution industry needs a shakedown from top to bottom.

Tied in to this is how on Earth did it get to be that a Twinkie is cheaper than a carrot ?

There is a link somewhere between these 2 food industry discrepancies.

Oh yes it can. That's the entire problem here.

A lot of the veterinary medicines and treatments for horses stay in their systems and are quite harmful to humans.

Actually thats true. I'd forgotten that bit. I was thinking more the horses reared for eating as they are in France which are perfectly fine for consumption.

It's only the miss-labelling issue that bothers me. Other than that - Who eats Ikea meatballs anyway?

Yes, this is exactly the point that I am concerned about. You can only find the stuff that you are actively searching when you do lab tests. Turns out that there was a criminally mislabeling going on on a huge scale, maybe for years. But all the labs were only testing for horse meat now.
Who knows what these guys have else declared as meat and made us eat..ugh.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

"Mis-labeling" does qualify for criminal fraud at all International levels.

It's a huge, huge issue and getting larger.

Which is *why* it disturbs me. In the Pharma industry where I work, if we did something like that, we'd expect a mult-hundred million dollar fine, at the very least. That is already happening as well.

Saw an article Friday on CNN about the 30% of 'mislabeled' or completely wrong drugs, but can't find the article atm.

This is another effect of Reagan's deregulation of the industries back in the day. What a destructive man he was ultimately.

The "30%" claim is... Well calling it skewed is hardly putting it strongly enough. There are problems, however - And a lot oif it has been brought on by the move to re-import. Stupid and/or gullible people thought that importing someone else's drug policy* would somehow magically solve all the problems. Reagan's deregulation wasn't, isn't, the issue. Indeed, the Pharma industry is more tightly regulated now than ever in the past. There are, however, some nations which don't bother enforcing rules - their own, or anyone elses'.
Caveat Emptor.


*When you import drugs from another nation, you automatically bring the consequences of their policies in with their drugs - Including their regulatory controls - or lack thereof.

Exactly. One of the easiest foods on Earth to say no to, imo. That goes for any kind of meatball in a jar or can. They all taste the way canned dog food smells.
