You know self destruct has such a long countdown you'll be dead before it goes off, right?

Well, imagine a suicide carrier fitted with max tank dealing over 25000 AOE, this would be funny to see on KB's

Ships killed 7B -Ships lost 12B to an AOE effect ;)

You forgot freigthers and jump freighters...

Now.. a freighter filled to the brim with ammo / inustrial explosives / bombs what have you.. it would be the new superweapon ;)
or if you don't mind spending a little.. a jump freighter..

Fleet fight ensues... hero cyno flies in and goes up in the middle of the enemy fleet.. Jump Freighter jumps in, and explodes.

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?

Bringing doomsday back!
that's definitely a winning argument why self-destructing should cause damage around the ship.

Why not have a chance for an externally initiated self-destruct (i.e. you've been destroyed by other people's guns) to explode catastrophically with an AoE as per a self-destruct?

And externally initiated self-destruct is called being blown the **** up.

I support this idea.

I could put cargo expanders on my T1 frigate, load it up with T2 ammo and go fly it into the side of a unsuspecting freighter.

I support the idea of more damage, especially in the docking range of Jita 4-4.

All I could think was Corpse Explosion from D2...but that was before I noticed 'self-destruct'

Having AOE self destruct would be a rather cheap game mechanic. I don't think it has any place in this game.

So - Ammo that doesn't drop, instead goes off in secondary explosions? Cooooool...Cool
And can those secondaries pod the pilot? Please..?!Twisted Maybe even trigger tertiary detonations in ammo that hasn't yet 'cooked off..?'

Even if the secondaries don't do AOE damage, I'd still lke to see them. Pop a frieghter full of ammo, instant fireworks! Lol

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Ofcourse the person flying the ship that explodes would get podded instantly from an explosion like that, who cares, I want to ram a freighter filled to the brim with Bombs into a Titan.

The current ship self-destruct system seems to be in place for 2 reasons.

1. Pod yourself to get back to your clone
2. Deny the enemy a killmail

What if CCP created an AOE damage wave to go along with the self destruct. The larger the ship the greater the damage wave and the further it extends. This wave would effect all the ships within it, friendly and enemy alike. Kinda like a smartbomb, only bigger.

for example something like:

Frigate - 500 hp to 4,000 meters
Cruiser - 750 hp to 5,000 meters
Battleship - 2500 hp to 7,500 meters
Carrier - 25,000 hp to 10,000 meters
Titan - 75,000 hp to 15,000 meters

These numbers are just examples and would certainly have to be tweaked.

It would give the player a list ditch, If I'm going down, I'm taking them with me option.

Would you be more apt to use the self destruct option knowing you might be able to take a few with you on the way out?

How would this change the fleet tactics being used currently?

in 2003 this was true, but the damage was so horribly small it didn't matter, then they took it away, and they took away the torpedo aoe splash damage, and they took away the deployable mines.... something about the client having to check to see what's damaged creating lag... boo
