So there's this player whom I have added as a contact and I made sure to also check the 'add contact to watchlist' option, but he always shows as offline even though I can see him speaking in chat channels.. How is this done?

There used to be a bug like this. You could get around it by removing and re adding the person in question.
Not sure if thats the case here but i cant think about any way you can purposly make your self appear as offline for others.

Known bug.

There is no option to appear offline while you are online.

Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Help channel: Help chat - Reloaded

Public roams channels: RvB Ganked / Redemption Road / Spectre Fleet / Bombers bar / The Content Club

I'm offline right now

But I'm watching you all........

Heh heh heh..........

I have deliberately developed an air of cynicism that I originally intended to make me appear somewhat louche and caddish but actually comes across as irritable hostility combined with the unspoken threat of sudden violence.....

Also Dev actors, volunteers and CCP staff (acting as such) will always appear offline. In their case this is not a bug, but rather a feature. Mainly intended to stop you from harassing them :). (and in the case of dev actors to be able to jump you)

Edit: Not enirely sure about this, but some contacts claimed they could see dev actors online on their watchlist. I'm nearly completely sure it's bogus, but on the off chance they are right, I'm mentioning it.

Have you tried closing and opening the people & places window again?

I've noticed that there seems to be a delay or simply no update at all unless I close the window and re-open it, so if you keep it open at all times this could be the case.

Its a common tactic for alliances to watchlist known titan bridge alts of their enemies to know when they're logged in, because it means a fleet will be going up.

If there was a way to disable watchlist, it would be used pretty widespread

The watchlist started working again after downtime so I'm just going to assume it was some weird bug :)
Thanks for all the assistance guys.
