What if a ship self-destruct created an AOE detonation wave?

The current ship self-destruct system seems to be in place for 2 reasons.

1. Pod yourself to get back to your clone
2. Deny the enemy a killmail

What if CCP created an AOE damage wave to go along with the self destruct. The larger the ship the greater the damage wave and the further it extends. This wave would effect all the ships within it, friendly and enemy alike. Kinda like a smartbomb, only bigger.

for example something like:

Frigate - 500 hp to 4,000 meters
Cruiser - 750 hp to 5,000 meters
Battleship - 2500 hp to 7,500 meters
Carrier - 25,000 hp to 10,000 meters
Titan - 75,000 hp to 15,000 meters

These numbers are just examples and would certainly have to be tweaked.

It would give the player a list ditch, If I'm going down, I'm taking them with me option.

Would you be more apt to use the self destruct option knowing you might be able to take a few with you on the way out?

How would this change the fleet tactics being used currently?

You know self destruct has such a long countdown you'll be dead before it goes off, right?

This couldn't possibly turn into a horrible cluster**** of an idea, could it.

I honestly feel like I just read fifty shades of dumb. --CCP Falcon

Like a cluster of rookie ships or cheap T1s at the Jita undock? Nah.

Now if your cargo, e.g. ammunition, added to the explosion then you would have a cluster**** of an idea. Imagine self-destructing a Charon carrying 19,625,000 rounds of Large Anti-matter rounds, or 13,000 bombs at the Jita undock.

Also, why limit it to self-destruct? Why not have a chance for an externally initiated self-destruct (i.e. you've been destroyed by other people's guns) to explode catastrophically with an AoE as per a self-destruct?

Something like this WOULD work in theory (it will be abused like everything else, but sincerely who gives a **** - stuff gets abused in EVE every single day)

- Have the ships mass affect the explosions base damage and inside ordanance (the bigger the ship the bigger the base damage, the more ordnance in a bigger ship the even greater explosion)

- Don't have ships explode in this manner through self destruct, instead simply blowing it up with gunfire.

Also; if CCP didn't want to add damage to the explosions, can't ships with large amounts of ordance blow up like structures do in missions/anomolies?

I fully support this, but add an extra 0 to the end of each of your numbers, then we're talking.

I like it, add ammo and cargo into the damage calculations :)

If someone wanted to invest that much ISK/time/effort into an epic Gank bomb and undock Jita 4-4 one day, I personally would have no problem with that, but others might.

It sure would make for a change of tactics.

Please use Features & Ideas Discussion.

To the idea:

No. You fight and you win, or you lose while trying. Suicide should never be rewarded or have any form of power, ever.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

We have to redo that tutorial mission, the newbies might get confused.

Our newbies, of course, do get rewarded for dying in a fire. Sometimes they even grab an enemy long enough for us to send the enemy with them.

Loyalty is a virtue, participation brings reward.

And I am sure they tried and fired many shots before they died. I am sure they did not simply self-destruct.

You want to try again to come up with a response or shall we just say this was not the best of yours?

This will be abused so much, that CCP will be forced to add the 1812 Overture to the EVE soundtrack.

I'm surprised nobody in this thread has yet pointed out to you that #2 doesn't work anymore.

EDIT: Aw ****, Dave Stark edited his post as I was posting this.
