The MD awards thread got me thinking, who do you consider to be apart of the MD elite? So who are the trusted gurus of this community. At the end of the thread I'll compile any eve-mail or posts here for the final count. The one catch is they must still be active.

Yes this has been done before, but as we all know in this community people come and go and opinions change.

The MD Elite, my personal list from the other thread:
Tornsoul
Ray McCormack
Grendell
Hexxx
Amarr Citizen 155
Proton Power
Akita T
Femintaki
AureoLion

Besides how i feel about any rating , it might be MD award rating , it might be a rating for loans etc , i'll give a simple reply.

Ask yourself what is elite? Is it the input you make on the MD forum? Is it the amount of isk you can loan?

Look at the names you have there , now look them up in eve-search.Now check the total amount of posts they make on average in a month on MD forum wich does NOT have anything to do with loans etc.For instance grendell asking for a loan , ray and AC commenting on E-bank progressions.I think you'd get between 1 to a max of 10 posts of wich a lot are quick replies/trolling fun.I can at least think of a HUGE amount of names who contribute more to the daily things on MD then those above.

The only one out i'd say is akita who also does not post a lot BUT all the posts he/she makes here are purely market related.SO in short IF anyone deserves an MD award akita would be my top one because of the deep insight he/she has in the market.

The list is not for any purpose other then fun and curiosity about peoples opinions. So for me the idea of an MD elite is somebody who's been around a long time who has the respect/trust of a large part the community.

Akita T because he actually talks about market issues and is frighteningly knowledgeable and insightful, thereby making him "elite" in that respect.

I personally like Ray and AC because they're hilarious, but that's better suited to a list of "md characters" as opposed to "elites".

Btw, did you resign from the Council? You used to have full access to the official tally of MD rep points.

If you need any more reason to place Raw23 on the Elites, i really don't know what to tell.
Also, confirming i'm a flakeys alt! (not.)

Ray def gets my vote for being hilarious. He's gotten funnier since he took over things at EBANK with his "I dont give a sh1t, deal with it" attitude.

There is no MD elite, because as flakey says, there too many criteria, working capital available, leverage/ venture capital at work, influence, opinion forming, insight, new thinking, knowledge, Number of IPO/Bonds completed, scams completed. Few of that list excel in more than one of two criteria and I would struggle to choose one to place in even most categorise, never mind all.

This only becomes a meaningful exercise if reasons are expressed.

it's really not some official list or anything, just fun. So if you think they should be there, throw in your opinion and I'll tally up everyone's opinion down the line to see where the opinions stand.

EDIT:
On another note I do think RAW is pretty respectable and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about him. All around he seems like a good fella in MD.

There is no real criteria in an opinion. MD Elite has always been a matter of opinion, not numbers or ideas.

I did not want reminding that I need to finish that project! Thanks a bunch. Blink

In general, the idea of 'elites' on MD is a pretty dangerous one. There are people who post a lot, people who add drama and comedy, people who are insightful, people you trust, etc. If you want to use the term 'elite' for pretty much anything other than trust and authority I don't have a problem with it. But once elite labels, trust and authority start going together you then get very dubious institutions that perpetuate themselves and rarely do a good job. The fact that half the names on Countess's list have been involved in some of the biggest financial catastrophes in MD's history goes to show how dangerous the label is.

But if you want to move away from that understanding and just use it as a synonym for 'I like this person and they have been around for a while' then:

Elite Analyst: Akita T
Elite Troll: Companion Qube
Elite Investor: flakeys
Elite Poster: Madame Pinkerton/Florestan Bronstein

But I'm still King, right? You'll leave me with that scrap?

And those with the most insightful and profound revelations about the Eve economy and how to make money in the markets, those who do not need to post very much, are ignored. Just like real life - Squeaky wheels get the attention.
