CCP Games, Japan Team

****

Dear [accountname],

On July 7, 2011, CCP Games and Nexon Co. Ltd. announced the signing of a co-publishing agreement that aims to bring a localized and fully supported version of EVE Online to Japan. The partnership entails that CCP will continue to develop and host the game, as well as handle all gameplay related customer support. Nexon, meanwhile, will handle billing, billing support and local marketing/PR. We have noticed that our Japanese players are very curious about the plans ahead and we will try to answer some of the most frequently asked questions here below.
Payments, account and ID

In order to fully utilize the strengths and expertise of the two companies – and thereby offer the best possible service to Japanese users – Nexon will handle all EVE-related payments for Japanese users starting from April 1, 2012. We have adapted an approach that ensures minimal inconvenience for our existing players. We hereby confirm that players will keep both existing EVE accounts and characters, and that there will be no change regarding the existing EVE ID system or how it is used to access the game client and EVE-related login sites (such as EVE Gate and Account Management). Please note, however, that all players will need to establish an additional Nexon ID which will be used exclusively for billing and billing support. In short, the only change to existing account and login procedure is that after April 1, 2012 an additional login step will be added for players to access Nexon’s convenient and secure payment system. The change above will apply to all players residing in Japan regardless of nationality.

Nexon offers all major payment methods. Please click the following for more information: https://point.nexon.co.jp/main/guide/guide/what.asp
Language options and server

We want to use this opportunity to confirm that all Japan-based users will continue to have the option of playing in English, Japanese or any other languages officially supported by CCP. Although it is a common matter of speech to refer to a “Japanese client” to be launched in Japan, we want to emphasize that Japanese players will continue to play on Tranquility with the rest of EVE’s international community, and that Japanese will be added as a language option to the existing EVE client, which already supports English, Russian and German. All Japan-based players will retain these language options after the launch of Japanese.
Localization status and plans ahead

In this context, we are happy to announce that EVE players will have an opportunity to preview the new Japanese version of EVE before the end of the year. Testing and improving the Japanese version of EVE on the new localization platform, Cerberus, is a top priority for CCP right now and we look forward to reporting to you in more detail about our progress and plans ahead. Our partnership with Nexon also allows us to offer various EVE-related information, support and activities in Japanese which we are convinced will be of great interest to existing players. More information will follow in the coming weeks and months regarding the official launch plans, along with special discounts that will be offered to existing players to celebrate this long-awaited milestone.

Thank you as always for your interest and participation in the ever-evolving world of EVE Online.

Fly safely!

Assuming the truth of the contents of this email.

The critical problem in this change is that we can't trust NEXON.
Their ID and other management that is famous for its very sloppy in Japan.
I'm not want to pay the money through this company.
Many Japanese EVE player the same think.
Why do CCP prevent same payment method until now?
Can't understand.
I'm happy with the current method of payment.
but, some people want to pay with the NEXON, the choice should be remains.
This means is CCP should be able to choose it both.

I'm warning that the current policy will be MANY JAPANESE NOT PLAY EVE.
Of course, I'm one of them.

added, I'm trusting CCP.

Sorry poor English :p

thanks.

TL;DR some Japanese players don't trust or like Nexon and OP thinks it would be better if there were alternative methods of paying CCP besides through Nexon.

CCP mostly sucks at their job, but Veritas is a pretty cool dude.

Also that Japanese players will leave if it means they will be forced into using Nexon.

I support my Japanese brethren in their fight against this tyranny.

Whatever "dev" it was that removed the pod squish sound probably never even logged into the game.

If forced to Nexon ID, then I would quit EVE Online.

Not a fan of Nexxon myself, but could one not simply buy GTC's and redeem them instead of having to pay Nexon?

Yes CCP needs to come up with a final solution to the Japanese problem...

Wait a Sec, let me rephrase that.

They don't seem to be able to use plex. if i am correct it seems that they have to buy everything through nexon. regular GTCs don't work.

I'm happy to bring this up with CCP, but I don't really understand what the problems are. Is this correct:
1) People are concerned about NEXON having their billing information. Was there a security breach at NEXON before?
2) People are concerned about prices increasing. How much are Japanese people paying now? Are they charged the Euro rates or the US rates? Do they buy GTCs?

If folks aren't comfortable answering in public, feel free to eve mail me.

Glad I got a few decades worth of PLEX lined up, and a VISA card registered abroad... Else this news would have made me a very sad panda.

More information on Nexon, if you have such, could prove to be relevant.

But in this case, your support is still CCP (no comment on how good or bad that is), the only time you would have to deal with nexon would be billing issues.

I'm talking about billing customer service. they tend to overcharge and generally are completely unhelpful.

1) Nexon are Koreans only people who don't like them are racists
2) My corporation has explained that a PLEX is cheaper than a McDONALD'S value item in Japan.

No... Support will be handled all by NEXON.

Also, Japanese versions of MMO's usually have way higher price than in the west. (Think 2x or 3x 'just because they're japanese', rather than 30% due to VAT). It seems that they are really worried they won't be paying anything near the same old sane prices... And it will be rather strict, e.g. you can't skip the Japanese localized client hoping to avoid the surcharge, as long as you're a japanese resident you pay in blood. (lol, glad I got PLEX)
