OK - my GF who plays eve religiously got into this good deal with our employer - they pay for a bike for year, we pay them back minus tax. Its all to do with activating us unwashed - but is useful sometimes. We are uk so Tax is high.

Anyway she took it on, she paid the monthly due but 2 months ago the bike got stolen - and today she got a bill for the finalising of the deal from the employer.
Alll good so far - just unlucky.

But dont you just...... sometimes.....

I dont know, we live in a small town, i know who it was.... its obvious. he just got himself incarcerated at her majesties pleasure for a year for getting stuck on the roof of a pharmacy hed robbed for about enough strickneen to kill 500 people.

Id like to help in this endeavour - right now.

I know im gonna get banned - please dont ban me from the game!

But sometimes.... just sometimes...

Drunk angst, honest angst.

Sounds to me like someone is need of a good thrashing. Is there any chance at all that your GF's wheels are still in this guy's residence? Have you talked to the CPS to determine if they've recovered any 'spoils' when they arrested this guy? Long shot, I know, but you never know...

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Mods are very very understanding of drunk posts... I doubt they'll do anything more than give you some sage advice about the future

things like bicycles can be claimed under renter's insurance...... the timing of this advice sucks because it's after the fact, but ... renter's insurance.

also: craigslist. do you have an equivalent of craigslist (or craigslist itself)... you can find great bikes for below their retail

I found this 1996 litespeed ocoee (the bike of my dreams as a bike shop employee in high school) on craigslist, listed for $220 (btw, the picture in that link is one I took last year and has been used on that site. without my permission! just kidding, i'm proud of it. the way i got it, with the spinergy wheels it came with! I also put it through some upgrades)

the frame alone is still easily $1,000. in 1996 this bike retailed for $2,500... the beauty of titanium bike frames is the metal never fatigues the way aluminum does.

the listing was 90 miles away, it was barely a thumbnail pic, but I knew the color scheme--as hard as it was to believe my eyes. I was at the seller's house in 45 minutes (yes, 90 miles in 40 minutes plus surface streets)...

It looked to be an estate sale. .. gorgeous woman, two kids, no man in sight. everything in the house had price tags on them, and it was all solid, expensive furniture and paintings. I hope she was just a divorcee, and not a widow... because I'm really happy to have found this bike.

that man had a good eye for beauty Cool

craigslist!

They have actual bike insurance in the UK and most of the EU. As someone who used to race and has had quite a few high value bikes stolen i'm jealous.

I felt that way about my last Robinson. That one was stolen by more impatient thieves than usual. They didn't even wait for me to get off it that time. They just sucker punched me as I was crossing a street and threw it in the back of a truck. Anyway, Robinson doesn't exist anymore and I had customized it so thoroughly that the only original parts left were probably the frame and the brakes.

Yeah.

Edit: Currently have a completely stock GT Power Series because I'm broke. I need to get back in shape so I can start racing again now that they're finally building a track near me that isn't a complete joke. I'm an old man now (by BMX standards) so I got the cruiser version since cruiser races are usually popular with my fellow geezers.

Joran i was just going to comment that cruiser or not, a bmx style bike automatically makes one look like a punk from the age of 12. even 10 is pushing it

this sounds like i'm just telling stories, but in high school i used to ride with ... nah, I shouldn't say it. too high-profile

I forgive you then. It's unfair to the bike to blame it for me looking like a punk though.
