hmm i fit an 720mm howitzer in that 2 slots and it turn out well, sometimes the 2 arty outdamage 5 heavy missiles the cyclone have

Depends on what you're trying to do. For pve, I'd definitely grab guns, for pvp it depends if you're ranged HM kiter (in which case it's guns) or a close in HAM brawler (in which case it's neuts).

The new Cyclone...well, it kinda tempts you to try fitting it in various ways but then ends up being slightly more difficult to achieve the result than you really want.

Single XL-ASB fits are doable with rigs, but you only have 19K EHP to back up the ASB when it runs out of charges. So it will be a glorious 35 seconds of tanking, and then poof, 90M ship down the turlet. Ubnless you automagically manage to cap your foe out with your 2 neuts.

Buffer-HAM fits look good, till you get to the whole pointy end of the exercise, which is where you miss the 5 turrets/3 launchers and the extra 120 DPS you'd get from a full buffer-gank setup. Now, only 570 DPS cold. Hardly an improvement.

In fact, you have so much PG spare, and an extra lowslot, you may as well run an armour ewar boat; 1600 plate, HAM/Neuts, and load the mids with TD's or RSD's.

Indeed, nanofag HML Cyclones may be the way to go, with low DPS and extreme nano overdose in the lows.

I am unconvinced.

You can't fit any of that with a proper tank, and you can't get more than 350 DPS from the HAMs.

tbh i think if they would give to the drake 5 launchers it would still be a better option than the current cyclone

I miss the old cyclone. I miss using projectiles.

They cheated me out of my hurricane, and made my precious cyclone use missiles?

been using it as a HML kite fit, as i hate HAMs, it seems to be behind the drake still - since the drake does more damage and needs less BCUs.

So as far as the cyclone i used to know and love, its gone, lack of mids or tps and webs doesnt make the lure of HAMs so appealing when it comes to dealing with cruiser and smaller.

would be sweet if it got a bonus to rapid light launchers :D

It's not really ment to be a brick. Fit it like the oldschool podla Drake with ASBs instead of the buffer and you'll get a really cool ship, sort of a BC sized stabby. You can easily get 340 dps with HMs, 450 with HAMs and a bit over 600 including a flight of medium drones (though I personally prefer a flight of lights and a flight of ecm drones for versatility). Double neut on both of course and assuming you actually want some tank and tackle. :p

My most used Merlin fit uses Auxiliary Power Core, my Corax and Manticore both have ancillary rigs and so on. Using a fitting mod is viable if the gain is worth it. You can fit a Large ASB without co-processor, or you can cram in an X-Large ASB and sacrifice a low for the co-processor, it's all a matter of preference.

N.B. - not actually field tested as of yet, so actual mileage and awesomeness may vary. You could also go dual TD's, dual webs, drop the BC for RCUII and mebbe upgrade to medium neuts.

Just marking the passing of the original weapon layout of the first ship I ever really liked in EvE. It may have been a slightly underpowered rust heap but it was my rust heap and given the right circumstances it could perform great feats.

Liang wrote a good breakdown of a drake versus new cyclone here. I've been trialing a Vulcan cyclone fit using a mix of em/therm, and its
on par with many and varied ham drake fits.

they changed it because dual x-l ancil fits were "too easy" considering gun cpu vs missiles and bcus.

its sorta fun but could do with being a little faster to kite, or an extra mid to brawl with hams better
