Not sure if this should go in the general discussion or not. If not please move it where it should be.

What do you think about the idea of adding a preset toggle to the D-Scan window to allow you to preset 3-4 different scan ranges? IE: Preset 10,000,000 KM - 300,000,000 KM - 600,000,00KM - and then max range.

This seems totally doable with the way the game is and should be something that can be added to the game. It would be a great alternative to having to regularly type in new ranges when D-Scanning.

a range in au would be nice :(

i'd settle for a second input box, slider and 'scan' button, too, to have two different settings you can keep an eye on both without fiddling with numbers

e: what the heck is an 'imput', damn

vvv please don't spam the thread vvv

(I think the slider showing in AU instead of kilometers would be the best, or maybe a toggle.. I don't know.. but 90% of the time people are doing km to AU conversions.)

Other possible improvements:

- a hotkey to dscan. my click finger is tired
- a hotkey to move the slider up down in degree incements
- a hotkey to adjust range in au increments

Range in AU would solve most of the problems with Dscan (aside from the slider issues).

OP stop making sense. This is CCP we're talking about.

Edit: What next? Those presets should be user-configurable? In either km or AU? /throwhandsupindespair

I'd love to see it become easier to adjust, but I still need to be able to fine-tune it down to a few kilometres when I'm surprising other peoples' safespots.

The root of the problem is the mix of units of measure: metric scales super-easily, but adding AU and lightyears into the mix is cumbersome. Maybe do it all in kilometres but have the digits auto-align into groups of three (with commas, as you please) so that it is easy to quickly estimate.

As a currently-trying-out-pvp pilot, I agree with OP.

It would be nice if the D-scan was a tad bit more user-friendly and configurable.

Presets too.. I have a hard-book with how much KM I need for that amount of AU and whatnot lying on my desk, I wish I could remove it and have a nice plate of eggs and bacon instead, but I got no room XD

I was just thinking this last night as I was switching dscan ranges constantly trying to find someone. So +1 to the OP's idea.

Next youll want to have D-scan be automatic so that you dont have to mash the button every few seconds....

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Not at all. Just looking to be able to have maybe 3 configurable ranges (in KM) to set and then be able to select them as i see fit.
Realistically we all primarily narrow our DScanning down to a few distances anyway. Either max range on 360 as the default, then max range at 15/5 degrees when pinpointing, and then whatever else. When im in a plex i put it to about 10,000,000 KM to monitor the gate. Being able to switch quickly between these 3 range options would be fantastic. Maybe linking in to the angle and having that change as well would be possible.

Think of it this way. If it where real life a space ship would definatly be able to configure its sensor system to do this.

Also - a tip i found out. When you left click the "scan" button and dont hit any other key or click on anything else, you can just keep hitting your right side "enter" key and it will scan every time you hit enter. For those that get really sick of clicking scan continuously, you can just hit enter repeatedly. Made things so much more convenient.

It would be nice..

like a 'constantly scanning' radar of sorts.. like EVERY OTHER SPACESHIP GAME IN THE UNIVERSE has..

just get a USB big button and set it to your choice of key, then put it under your foot at an angle. Listen to music and tap your foot to the beat :)

Forget AU. What we need is a slider labeled with Realy Far, Farther, Far, Close, Closer, Closer Still....all problems with Dscan, gone! Think about it! In comms when someone asks how far off is a target on dscan you can say "He's really far" or "He's close!" or "He's closer still"! What more do you need?

Seriously, if you haven't memorized KM -> AU conversions to the extent that you know 'about' what range in KM = what range in AU, do you really need to play this game? Come on! Just throw all those KM -> AU charts in people's bios into yours. HTFU!...for the children!

1 AU is just under 150,000,000 km. Not hard.

Albeit not being hard doesn't mean that having to do the conversion isn't dumb. I'd like being able to use both km and AU.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

D-scan needs serious rework... it should have seperate filter than overview settings... so you could tweak what you get on Dscan without having to use different overview... range slider in AU + input box with KM would also be nice... also when sliding the angle slider.... a small circle around your ship show show up (toggle able) that indicates the area of the screen that will be scanned... this should have a similar effect in the solar system view... also the tracking camera should be able to track celestials on the overview such as moons and belts, so you could look towards a specific belt very fast and use 5 degree scans.

(Also the tracking camera should be able to track scanned down anomalies and celestials in the solar system view or even in the 100% signature under the dscan taps)... just my 5 cent on how to improve the Dscan
