Screw it.

I'm just going to express my concerns and whatnot in this thread.

I expect Test trolls and their NPC corp alts to pay a visit. Hello to you. Cookies and milk on the counter. Enjoy your stay.

To the vets:

- Can someone please tell me which Alliances are Russian/EU/US? I told a recruiter of another corp today that I had some interest in trying to join Nulli Secunda and the guy told me that he had heard they were a mainly Russian alliance. I'm a country bumpkin from Georgia. There's no way for me fit into a Russian alliance and I do not want to waste my time applying to corps only to find this out.

- What...should...I...train for? I trained for SBs, found out I hate them as I cannot solo pvp in them. Yes, stupid me, should have done more research. I was just in a mad dash to fly something somewhat useful so that I could join a decent corp and have some fun. I can fly all Caldari Cruisers, Hawk, Manticore. Was training toward Caldari BSs then was told no, I should stick to cruisers and BCs for now. However most Corps I see recruiting want people who can fly the big boys. I don't see anyone asking for Ferox pilots. Just lay it on me. WTF should I train to be able to fit into some fleets and FINALLY enjoy this game? I'm sticking with it. Many noobs quit, but I'm sticking to it. Its difficult as I am not the most patient person, but I do like the game.

- Is there like, an EVE-O glossry? I am so sick and tired of feeling like I'm reading the menu as a Japanese restaurant when I'm reading some of these forum posts. To this day I do not have a tight grasp on WTH a cyno is. Jump bridge. WTH are these things? I Google, but all I really get are conversations ABOUT these things, nothing telling me exactly what they are really.

- Just be honest. It's all about who you know, right? Getting into Alliances is really just a popularity contest it seems. FOlks will post all of these requirements but let in day old toons because they know a guy who knows a guy who farted in the CEOs older sister's face in High school at a drunk party, he thought it was funny, so yeah, let him. in. That's cool but just say it vets. Stop telling us noobs that if we work real hard and skill up, we can be the bestest of the bestest! No. You have to either kiss the right butts, make your own, join some stupid ass forum like Reddit/SA or be funny on TS ( which I can do) in order to get into the big boy corps. Nothing wrong with that. Really. The ability to network in very imperative to progression. I just want you to admit it and stop making it seem like SP is really all that matters.

- Do ANY women play EVE? Seriously. Or are you guys paying your older sisters to jump on mic so you can get free ****?

- Is CCP like Blizzard in that they purposefully maintain imbalance in order to create a grind? In WoW Blizzard will purposefully make one class OP simply to push people to re-roll and regrind thus keep paying. Smart, but is currently biting them in the ass. I ask this because a few weeks ago, vets were harping at noobs like me about how great Drakes were. I recently just had a recruiter tell me, when I asked about his corps doctrine, that Drakes are pretty much useless. Wha-wha-what-da-F**K??? Soooo...I spent this time training this for....? (this kind of ties into my first point/question). Can he vets just tell it like it is, if it is this way. That we as noobs need to just keep our ear to the beat and train for the FOTM ships instead of training for what we want to fly. "Yeah man, train what you ENJOY flying" yet what I ENJOY flying isn't desired by any decent corps and therefore I'm relegated to playing by myself. I do not play an MMO to play solo.

- Should we read Mittani or EN24? As noobs. FOX (Mittani) or MSNBC (EN24)? We just want to know what's going on and who actually gives accurate information.

More to come as I think of more questions. I am tired from work.

Thank you in advance to those who choose to give thoughtful answers.

Train for T1 logistics (both shield/armor) and T1 combat cruisers, maybe BCs or T2 logistics and find a faction warfare corp. They're good training grounds for future nullsec pilots, and helps you learn the basics without getting too involved in 0.0.

1) Look at the Alliance discussion threads for a rundown. There are a huge number of alliances, many of them multinational. Breaking them out here would be absurd.

2) There are a number of people that solo pvp in stealth bombers. They are a target-of-opportunity ship. Consider fitting some sensor damps and waiting patiently for a target you are confident you can take on....thats a general solo pvp tip, but stealth bombers excel in picking targets of opportunity.

For a more robust solo experience, consider training into the recon ships or battlecruisers...or both. Actually...both. Practice with regular cruisers and frigates, IMO.

You could also consider prowling lowsec in an assault frigate or interceptor.

3) Google works as a glossary. The game is vast and has many facets, some patience on your part will go a long way towards your enjoyment.

4) Yes, joining an alliance is about who you know. There are many ways to get to know recruiters. Most alliances have public channels you can join to get to know them and ask questions.

5) CCP has stated in a past devblog that they think imbalance creates content, as you constantly train for the current "meta" ...but I believe the person who wrote that (I think it was CCP Hilmar) is no longer in the same position he was in.

6) A lot of people dislike Mittani, but EVERYONE dislikes Riverini. That said, there are forums that exist that have tons of info.

7) Trying to antagonize among the most newb-friendly alliances is sure to get you help.

8) Trying to have a haughty attitude about alliance recruitment when you're attempting to join an alliance sounds like a pretty stupid ******* thing to do.

9) Trying to sound victimized on the eve-o forums...winning solution

Good luck.

0.0, Especially south eastern 0.0 is a melting pot. You will find both english speaking, and Russian speaking corps in many of the alliances in that area. If you want to apply to a corp, the recruitment forum is full of posts for English speaking corps.

It really isn't as hard to join one as you think it is. Be willing to hand over your full api, and be polite and honest about anything they ask and you will get in just fine.

Train for a Scimitar logistics ship, and you will never be left behind.. ever. Bubbler ships are also required on 90% of fleets, and you will want to be training destroyers 5 for the upcoming patch anyway. Other then that, focus on shield skills and core skills. Every alliance has a different doctrine, but if you have good core skills it is usually pretty easy to train into what ever ship they will want you to be in.

a Cyno is a portal that a ship opens up for capital ships to jump to. They can also be used by titans to bridge regular ships. (the titan becomes a stargate to the cyno portal)

Women do play eve.

If you want to get on fleets, don't train what you want to fly, train what is useful to the fleet. like logistics and bubblers. Learn to enjoy flying those ships, or whatever doctrine ships are called for. If you want to fly what you enjoy, look more towards FW and lowsec stuff.

All news is bias based on who wrote it, and 99% of it is propaganda. It is good to know what your enemy wants the public to know, just take it with a grain of salt.

Fess up? Like its some great secret? Fleet doctrine requires consistent stats and roles, people stay at X range, X damage needs to be applied, etc.

Solo and small gang warfare is where you fly what you really enjoy, or you put together a doctrine that uses the ships you want to fly. Or you fly as a special snowflake and potentially damage the efficiency of the fleet or risk not getting reps (flying an armor ship in a shield fleet, etc).

Some alliances don't allow special snowflakes. I'm glad I'm not part of those alliances.

1. Most corps will tell you what timezone they are based in when recruiting, if they don't just ask them.

2. It really depends on where you are. Where do you want to solo PvP? Low, null or in high sec with war decs?

3. Google will help you out a lot there. Let me help though

4. In a way yes, its about who you know. Eve is a very social game and trust is hard to earn and easy to lose. And of course if they know someone in real life it helps them trust them.

5. Yes. My wife plays eve. I know a couple of other girls who play. There are also some pretty famous girls who play eve as well. Why are you so interested in this?

6. No. The drake was pretty badly overpowered. The nerf has been coming for quite a while on it. At the moment CCP is in the middle of balancing all of the ships so that ships that basically never saw action before are now viable options for PVP.
Also the drake is still a very good ship, just not as good as before.

7. Read both! I prefer TheMittani.com as it tends to be a little more accurate (or rather less made up than EN24).

You really are a fantastic troll you know.

If the corp you are joining has a doctrine, then of course you need to train for it. However for what you are doing right now (flying in highsec and failing at RvB), you can train whatever YOU like.

I think you need to learn to have patience. I see you pop up here and there saying really really bad things and generally being a bad poster but when people offer help you turn around and suggest that they are hiding something or in the case of the above point out the obvious. A reasonable person would realise that a 'fleet doctrine' is something you need to fly if you plan on joining that corp. You however ask questions like 'what should I train?' and then treat the people who try to help you like crap because they said what has been said to every new player since 04.

See that fellow noobs? Stop listening to these sugar coaters telling you to train for what YOU like.

I'm not being sarcastic. I figured this was the case, I just needed some vets to finally fess up to this being the norm in EVE.

Most fleet doctrines have room for just about any type of flying style.

Like flying fast things? Interceptor or Dictor
Recons
Logi
DPS
Heavy Tackle

The list goes on, and it's all important.

Find something in each doctrine that YOU would like to fly, then train for it.

Is there like, a list of most often used fleet doctrines? That would really be helpful, as well as help the alliances as noobs would have a better idea as to what to train for, thus making for a larger pool of useful recruits.

Look up big fleet fights.

Dictors and Ceptors are useful in just about any fleet.
