I dont know if CCP have admitted it, or can see it yet, but they will end up releasing Dust514 for PC, it just makes too much sense.

The new PS4 has been announced to be based on x86 architecture, so any games that run on PS4 should be easy to port to PC, e.g. the Unreal engine it uses already runs on PC. So there really wont be an technical barriers, and there is a ready made market of EVE players without PS4 boxes that would be easy customers to gain.

The only think i can think of that will stop them is agreements signed with Sony for exclusivity, but even they would most likely have an expiry date.

EDIT: also the reason stated by CCP for not releasign to PC is that they want to target a different market, but wit hthe PS4 and PC hardware converging, other software will also, so their reason will disappear.

PS3 exclusive. :)

So long as the conctract CCP made with Sony is not somehow invalidated it'll stay on the PS3. ;)

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Give it up already, accept that us PC gamers won't be seeing DUST.

It makes sense to keep it ps3 for now given the huge installed base of ps3's out there

Yup, Sony still manufactures PS2 slims.

Less expensive than a PS3 with a huge selection of $5-$10 games, I'm sure it's still fairly popular with the less affluent.

Nope. Dust on PC would not be competitive with the calibre of other f2p similar style shooters in terms of scope of the world, battle size, etc, and would fail miserably on the PC. Games like Planetside 2, designed for the increased performance capabilities of the PC would just eat all the potential playerbase.

Contract isn't the only thing stopping it, luckily, ccp also has something going for them in this case called business sense.

Not really, no. The reason they're only releasing it on consoles hasn't gone away.

Eh, no. By that logic, the two markets are already the same (cf. Xbox), but that's not how the markets are defined. Until you start seeing Joe Everyman connecting his PC to his livingroom TV and controlling it from the sofa with a game controller (and has a mouse and keyboard connected to his console while sitting in the sofa), the two will remain worlds apart.

It has to do with use cases, not hardware or software. The use cases are vastly different so the markets are different.

The hardware is converging, not the maket.

I was just considering how to best articulate my deliberations on this topic, but it appears this gentleman has communicated it impeccably.

AND ccP doesn't want pc players stop playing eve to play DUST
They want pc players keep on eve and console one on DUST.

they want 2 playerbase not just one who switch between games.

And don't know in which language they have to tell you that people

CCP it's time to remove Off Grid Boost and Put Them on Killmail too, add Logi on killmails .... Open that damn door !!

you shall all bow and pray BoB

The final PS2 game was released last month, no more games will be produced for the PS2.

In my experience words "CCP" and "makes sense" seldom belong together. Too many of their choices and decisions go contrary to logic and all available evidence.

But in this case, I can somewhat agree with their decision to make Dust a PS exclusive. For one, it's a lot easier to deal with hackers/cheaters/aimbotters on PS than on PC, especially considering that the game is F2P. How do you stop aimbotting in a PC game that's F2P? Answer: you can't. It just isn't possible. Even something like IP ban is totally ineffective for someone using a proxy or simply having an ISP that uses dynamic IPs. As such, on PC, Dust would be a total cheater paradise, same as APB, for example. These are much lesser issues on PS3, as an average mouth-breathing consoleer wouldn't know where to start.

Besides that, on PC, Dust would be directly competing with well established and hilariously fun FPS games (such as TF2), or equally well established quality FPS games like Battlefield 3, or niche but nonetheless well established realism sim games like Operation Flashpoint/ARMA series. And honestly, from what I saw so far, the game can't hold a candle to any of those. And that's not even mentioning other F2P FPS games on PC, such as Planetside 2. In other words, just WAY too much competition that is, frankly, superior in too many ways or just considerably more well-established with a very large and strong fanbase.

I may be pessimistic, but I don't think we should be worrying whether Dust is coming to PC or not. All we should be worrying about is how much of a flop Dust is going to be, and whether the fallout from it will be bigger or smaller than Incarna's. This was a general sentiment when the game was announced, and it looks rather accurate now. I mean, the game has been in open beta for how long now? And do you see a lot of coverage on gaming sites? The game is niche in a niche, at best.

Exclusivity contracts ALWAYS have a duration. If its more than 1 - 2 years I'll be amazed.
