made this account over a year ago and left it there. i only really have 1-2 moths of experience.

so a friend of mine is hooking me up with a free myrmidon.
i would like to know everything about this ship basicly. pro/con... etc etc

i would like to know the absolute best weapons and such to fit with and also a more cost effective fit for both pvp/pve

being new, if you use abrieviation please tell me what it means lol.

also, any newbi tips would be awesome, i plan on doing a lot of pvp in the future.

Myrmidon is a slow, versatile* battlecruiser that works well in PVE and solo PVP. It does about 60% of it's damage with drones, which is probably the reason why many people misunderstand it as a "drone boat". To clarify, you lose almost half of your damage output if you don't fit turrets on it.

Myrm is famous for being one of the rare ships that can actually fit a viable active armor tank for PVP. Active armor tank is a niche style of ship fitting, it scales very poorly with the size of engagement, but is pretty boss in 1vs1 and other such micro engagements, because on Myrmidon you actually have lots of utility midslots to fit luxuries like dual webs (to make targets really slow) or ECCM (mods that make you harder to jam) along with tackle (warp disruptor or warp scrambler, to prevent your target from leaving) and propulsion (afterburner or micro warp drive).

Myrmidon has no bonuses to high-slot weapons, meaning that you are free to fit whatever turrets you may prefer/have the best skills/achieves what you. Autocannons are very common because they are easy to fit and don't use capacitor (active Myrm gobbles up capacitor), but some prefer blasters for higher damage and tracking, and being Gallente have better skills for them.

Drones are important for Myrm, so you will want to train your skills up. After you get T2 medium drones and all drone support skills to at least III (take Drone Durability to IV), expect to train big skills like Drone Interfacing V and Heavy Drone Operation V.

Repair Systems V and Battlecruisers V. Cap management skills to V. Armor compensation skills to at least IV.

My tips would be to fly a dual rep fit in PVE with cap booster and maybe one cap recharger, you will need to learn to manage the capacitor instead of just derping in cap stable fits. In PVP you are not going to be cap stable, you have better use for all the slots than cap mods, you live from the limited amount of cap booster charges, so make every rep cycle count. Learn to cycle your propulsion and the reppers at the right time.

Also train Thermodynamics and learn the art of overheating.

Myrm is a ship that requires a lot of attention in combat, you have multiple tanking modules to toggle and overheat, cap boosting with it's reload times, short gun range, people shooting your drones, maneuvering in a slow ship etc which means it's not EVE on easy mode but it's crazy fun after you get the hang of it.

For the above reasons it's a good idea to start PVP in smaller and cheaper ships that require less SP to fly properly. Incursus frigate is another famous active armor tanker, fit a handful of those to get the feel of PVP, make ISK with the Myrm and practice :)

Good luck!

* versatile = can do active and passive armor, and extremely high dps shield fits, both ASB and passive.

Roime has said it all so I wont repeat it. The point about starting small is worth saying again though. A toon with 2 months of skill points may be able to fly a Myrmidon but will be unable to fly it well. Add your apparently lack of pvp experience into the mix and I fear that Myrm will have a short lifespan.

A better option would be to put your Myrmidon in storage for now and start fitting up Tristans. Tristans are the frigate sized drone boat and are a great way to start building up skills to fly drone ships in roughly the following order:

Tristan --> Vexor --> Myrmidon --> Dominix

You should really be able to fly the previous ship well before moving to the next in line or you're gonna have a bad time, m'kay? Blink

Some good advice there, but also some bad - mostly for PVE.

For low-skill Myrmidon you should fit a passive armor tank.

Defensive:
- see that you can fit 1 T2 adaptive invulnerability field as it is strictly better than the T1 versions
- consider skilling for large T2 shield extenders, as they ar also strictly better than T1 (meta 4), though by a smaller margin
- meta 4 shield power relays are as good as T2, so no need to skill past those in the short run
- sprinkle in meta 4 power diagnostic systems if you have cap problems, but be aware that they boost shield less than SPRs

Offensive:
- see that you can use T2 light drones
- skill towards T1 sentry drones and later towards T2

For PVE I would recommend against skilling/using heavy drones
- with the new AI they are only safe when used for short range fights, i.e. as an emergency option when opponents slip past your sentries' tracking, without omnidirectional tracking links fitted they can have problems with fast frigs, though
- the Myrmidon's drone bay is too small to support a flight of heavy drones, senties AND light drones, you're probably better off with using medium drones as emergency close range option instead

"Passive armor tank"? Oh - shield tank, not armor. Yeah, that's also a viable option.

In my experience, though, an dual-armor-rep Myrmidon with a microwarpdrive can move surprisingly fast. And it's not too far from that to the legendary triple-rep Myrm, a truly nasty PVP fit...

Or -
Play to the Myrms strong point of
*7.5% bonus to Armor Repairer effectiveness* per level of Battlecruiser skill
