Freezing up while docking

Ever since the Retribution patch, Eve has been freezing up when entering a station. It'll go to a black screen for a good 10-20 seconds before finally tossing me into the station. It was doing this with WINE 1.4 from the Lucid Ubuntu-Wine launchpad. Self-compiling 1.5.18 didn't help one bit, but now at least I don't have to use any overrides.

Specs:
Debian Squeeze
Kernel 2.6.32-5-686
Gnome 2.30
Nvidia Geforce 9400GT with version 310.19 driver

If anymore info is needed please let me know.

I recommend against self-compiling wine.

This has everything you need to install eve on ubuntu. They are currently up to 1.5.19 right now, so it should be current enough for you.

I suspect your cache is corrupt though. Clear your cache on launch screen.

I'll have to try clearing my cache. As far as installing the lastest wine goes, I wouldn't be able to do it without messing with the dependencies since Debian Squeeze uses older libs and I'm not sure how well that would go down.

Edit: It's fixed now, so thanks for the help. I'm not sure why I didn't try clearing my cache in the first place lol

I figured I'd finally update what's been going on just in case somebody has the same problem...

It was still freezing up, but I got lazy and decided to just deal with it, at least until now. I started a fresh wine prefix and copied over all my settings for eve. When I logged into the game, I noticed it was freezing for a sec or two whenever it generated ship previews in the hanger. I immediately moved the cache location to my second drive and viola! Previews popped up without a problem. No lag or anything. I'll have to spend a little more time testing to make sure that's what the problem was.

Edit: It just froze up for a couple seconds when docking up, but it's been pretty smooth in space.

Edit2: Nevermind. I'm still getting terrible freezes in space. My hard drive is starting to take a crap, so I'll probably do a fresh install of Debian on my other hard drive and see what happens.

Update your video drivers. I have a GTX570 that was givning me low FPS and making multi boxing almost unplayable until I updated the nvidia driver from the repository. Now I play 5 clients with no problems.

Remove the old Nvidia driver. Add the xorg-edgers repo

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

Reboot and you'll have the lastest driver (316 I think at them moment). It fixed my problems.

That didn't quite work for me. Some Ubuntu packages just don't work in Debian :( I'll see if there's a beta driver from Nvidia.

Edit: I managed to get 313 straight from Nvidia installed and it seems to be working ok so far.
