Kind of a misconception.

Majority of the rugby players will not cut it in the NFL. Not big / strong / fast enough.

Doubt many would survive one season of hits. Maybe punter or kicker. lol.

P.S.
The pads add to the ability to withstand hard impacts. Increasing the ability for the person to dish out pain.

Bare knuckle boxing was seen as extremely barbaric etc. With the expect longer fight with more rounds and need for functional hand, the fighters tended to dish out punches with a lot less force.
The boxing today is more vicious as many in the sport will tell you, and it is with protection of gloves.

I came here assuming it was a post about football, a game played with the feet, but I had a strange suspicion that it might be about a game played with the hands. Guess my suspicions were wrong after all! :D

I gotta admit, the worst I've been beat up in my life were the two times when I was told to put on armor so that a tall guy could hit me with padded objects.
