CCP employees playing Eve

As the title implies, I would like to know how many CCP employees are playing the game. Not as testers or bug hunters, but actually playing so that if I interacted with them in the game I would not know that weren't an account holder like me.

I don't want anybody to be outed per say, I'm just curious about the effect of employees on game play. Who and how many are allowed to play, what are their job descriptions/titles, etc. Are there any restrictions placed on them.

Thanks in advance to those who know the answer and are willing to share.

Confirming I may or may not be possibly a CCP alt maybe.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I sincerely hope that every CCP employee involved in developing and implementing EVE is a regular player. The consequences of occasional malfeasance to the game are trivial compared to the consequences of it being looked after by people who are indifferent and ignorant of it.

CCP developers do play Eve, and are present in all walks of life in the game.

Of course, they have to remain strictly anonymous, and are not allowed to leak or use any insider knowledge. I'm not aware of the full extent of the restrictions placed upon them. Still, keeping the game fair is a serious concern, and it is why the Internal Affairs department exists.

Are you sure about that? I thought CCP employees were not allowed to suicide gank. Are you thus implying that suicide ganking is not a part of EVE?

This is an unrealistic expectation and would quite possibly be harmful to the game as a whole (!!).

I was not trying to imply anything. I simply do not have an answer to that. Sorry.

CCP play as Jovians for the most part. Which considering Jovian lore and what we know about Iceland... makes sense.

Obviously it's unrealistic (I prefer "aspirational"), but why would it be harmful?

Two reasons:
- People can burn out (creatively speaking) if they play the same thing that they make, day in and day out. You'll find that many industries have lots of people who don't partake in said industry recreationally.
- It's absolutely morale crushing to attempt to play games with people who are constantly talking **** about every little thing anyone at your company has ever done. Everyone who works at CCP is T20 to some people. Everyone who works at CCP is responsible for the 2008 lag. Everyone who works at CCP is responsible for some dumbass sitting there for an hour AFK on a gate and getting podded. Everyone at CCP is responsible for the UI and game design and and and and and. And frequently the players have no ******* clue what the **** they're talking about. But by God they know how to talk **** about your product.

So anyway.

Ed: For completeness, I also added in competitive analysis as a third reason.

I think perhaps your alliance has more people complaining about CCP than mine.

I bet they aren't allowed on voice comms. I'ld recognize an Icelandic accent in no time at this point. And Fozzie's and Kil2's voices are pretty easy to recognize.... unless they use some sort of voice masker...Pirate

Also, competitive analysis. If the game devs only play their own game, they never really figure out how to adapt ideas from other games (and game styles).

Look back across your time playing this game and tell me you haven't heard exactly the things that I have. Tell me how many times people have QQed in alliance or on comms because of the "stupid GMs" because of their petition or because of lag or because of all kinds of ****.

You act like it has to be a constant QQ hatred of all things CCP for it to bother and affect the dev's professional satisfaction. It doesn't.

Quite a few of us play regularly. As noted above there are some aspects of gameplay that we do not engage in as part of a general policy (suicide ganking is one), we always do our best to understand every aspect of EVE.

Liang is correct that playing a lot of EVE can wear CCPers out sometimes, between the need for secrecy, looking at the same game in leisure as in work, and people bashing our effort. However the last part isn't generally that bad, people tend to be pretty reasonable when they don't think they have anyone to troll, and I know I've indulged in some tongue-in-cheek "What kind of idiots make this game" banter when I run into bugs we haven't fixed yet. Lol

But just like all forms of EVE burnout, the best cure is a short break to play some other games until the EVE itch returns.

Why is suicide ganking forbidden? Maybe if CCP employees actually explored it instead of listening to the wail of wretches who would otherwise be wailing about how they need to be at their keyboard twice in one hour for their mackinaw, CCP would be less likely to make unwarranted nerfs to suicide ganking.

As a player, I was suicide ganking before it was cool. :hipster:

But as CCP employees we choose to stay towards the light side. It makes a refreshing change of pace for quite a few of us.
