Have CCP ever considered giving the green light on botting?

Ok, so I know the thread title sounds ridiculous but hear me out.
Let's say botting gets so bad (or is already but we don't know) that a significant number of players are gaining huge advantages from activities such as mining, mission running in high security space, etc.
CCP, despite struggling valiantly, has failed to defeat the onslaught of botting.

One way to fix the problem would be to actually allow botting. The materials aquired through doing so would become almost worthless, so rare materials that are found in lowsec and nullsec would gain a lot of value.

Concerned that nullsec and lowsec denizens could also make a killing with bots?
No problem, just destroy their ships and take their loot Big smile.

This would, as James 315 might say (please don't stop reading) place emphasis on tasks that require a lot of player skill—and could not just be completed by a simple machine.

I made a passing comment about Bots on my thread about the cost of Plex going up and I was straight in the cross hairs of the nah sayers.

You'd think I was slaughtering first born's at the rate I'm getting ***** spalled in the other thread.

I've played MMOs where the GMs allows or turned their back on bots.

None of those games does very well today.

CCP could, if they wanted to, use the banhammer and eliminate a vast majority of botting that is occouring ingame now. Why they don't hit harder and more often is anyone's guess.

I see nothing good coming of allowing it.

No. You're not fixing any problems by allowing botting. You're just giving up on the features where you allow it, making existing issues worse and creating new ones. Actually manually playing botted features becomes stupid, the mineral and ISK faucets will devalue other gameplay areas and can even destroy the entire game economy. All things that make it increasingly stupid for real people to continue investing their time with the game. If there is a gameplay area you don't find stimulating enough to warrant playing yourself, just leave it to others and go do something more stimulating.

Are you saying CCP only should allow boting in hi-sec?, null-bears should stick to whining about how hard life in null is and that hi-sec needs massive nerfs.

CCP already allows a form of botting in game, its called passive income. Allow botting in game, sure if you want to totally destroy our game,

I have always wondered about the people who claim botting is super prevalent in the game. I can't tell the difference between an AFK player and a bot so I can't decide if there is a lot of botting going on or a lot of AFKing going on.

For those who claim that there is a ton of botting happening could you provide evidence to back that claim?

1. Suicide the target
2. Does the target whine in local? If not, bot. If yes, not a bot.

Simple :)

Its a morale issue. A lot of players, me included, would quit if we knew that we had to compete against 23 hour/day bots ruining the markets, missioning, etc.

People always get those first two mixed up…

Oh, and OP, no. While some would argue the point, CCP are not actually completely braindead and ret… ehm… "special”, so they understand that it would only cause problems and solve absolutely nothing.

I believe a very similar experiment has occurred on the Chinese server. And, no, we don't want what has happened there contaminating our server.

Not /always/.

Back in the days when I mined, I got ganked a few times (Tank a retriever, pre buff? umm, not that easy.).

Did I whine? Nope. Well, not in local. That's what corp mates are for.

I also didn't spend time warping between the belt and station in my pod Blink

Woo! CSM XI!

Autorepeating cycles on mining modules, tens of thousands of m3 oreholds and plenty of EHP to go around make regular mining pretty automated already.

True, don't even need to jetcan mine now. Miners have it so easy nowadays. :/
