No, it's pretty frickin' useless in it's current form because of the difference in the center and peripheral resolution. Unless you want to have to turn your head every time you look from one EVE window to another.

My imagination is fine BTW. I don't see myself just playing EVE with this, I see myself discarding my monitors and interacting with my PC solely through this, but with a much later, more advanced version.

[too busy to acknowledge the name calling.] for the time being, 2D is ok. I'm willing to wait on CCP for that... they've done it once, maybe they'll do it again in the future.

I think UI should remain locked to the screen, and the tracking should only apply to the view of space, like when you right-click-and-drag in space. like I said... imagination.

Enjoy your hilariously low-res UI then. The peripheral is well below 720p.

Also, 3D is unimpressive in EVE anyway. The scale is so large that almost everything is just off at infinity.

it's a developer kit, not a retail product. all it needs is something like a retina display

Retail will be 1080p AFAIK, so in the peripheral it'll still be too low. Wait for them to get high enough res displays to be able to do without the lens distortion. Then developers will be able to use your entire field of view properly.

I like the idea, I want to be the first one on the block to have one, and when I'm not EVE'ing I'll be playing Hawken... which I've been eyeing since this time last year.

I would've had the first developer kit release, but I didn't know about it during the kickstarter, or in time to order it for the first run of developer kits.

if CCP doesn't have one I would like to get them one. I would just need a c/o CCP ______ so it gets to the right person.

know what else it would be awesome for? dust exploration. dust period

wanna hear something crazy? i don't think the reticle in FPS should be locked to the center of view. they should be independent and the visor should be used in tandem with a handheld sensor such as the Playstation move. it's a step toward running around with a weapon in your hands that aims independently of center view

You can still get one for April (expected).

That is pretty crazy, considering that the people who've used it have said that aiming by looking at things, which uses standard reflexes, is better than any existing input method.

I've ordered one, last week.

it might be the best method currently, but it's not natural. don't worry, I knowBlink

the playstation move, which isn't as good as the wii mote for accuracy, could get better and if the playstation 4's version is accurate enough to aim a weapon, I would hope they would allow the option of independent aiming and scanning. heck, and movement.

You think aiming a handheld weapon at something is more natural than looking at it? What are you, American? (joking)

I was going to split the cost of one with a friend, but the additional cost incurred by importing it pushed it too high considering that the dev version has limited game support.

I'm under the impression that besides Doom and Hawken, it has -no- support. I've only got a basic computer programming class under my belt from last semester (got an A Cool ), and there's only so much that can be helped on the hardware side. there are things that need to be enabled on CCP's end eventually.

my current plan is see what i can get working, FRAPS some videos and share them here.

...and order one for CCP if they don't have one. I live in the same county as the Oculus office building. which reminds me, i've been meaning to stop by to see one for myself.

There's some kind of driver that expands that list to include good games.

Yes, Mirror's Edge was the reason I came so close to splitting the cost on one. Can't wait to go freerunning in true 3D. Well, actually I can, obviously, since I didn't buy one. But you know what I mean.

I'm curious, what was the import cost over US retail?
I think you just add the VAT rate, so an additional 23%. Not a huge amount extra, but we were already very iffy about getting one because neither of us actively plays games that are currently supported.
