More destroyer variants?

Seached for a few combination of terms and I know it's been discussed before, but haven't found a thread regarding it. Any idea when we might see more destroyer variants? Has CCP ever mentioned anything in an official capacity?

Stealth (no bombs) for additional sneaky gankage, medium guns (At a cost elsewhere) for an even "sharper" glass cannon, counter missile/drone defense batteries, I know I'm not the first to think up some interesting bits for destroyers, and certainly wont be the last.

What's the word on more destroyers?

We just got new ones. Of course, I cannot see into the future, but I believe it is very unlikely to see more destroyers in the near future. It is going to take a while before it happens again.

Ah true, had kind of forgotten about the new T1 destroyers we got. At any rate, I don't necessarily think that means we don't see more for some time, it could (wishful thinking) in fact point towards the opposite, in that they are now directing attention towards shoring up destroyers a bit.

I do doubt that's the case though =/

should be a glass cannon type to live up with destroyer name, something that can be blown by a single hit but can destroy cruiser class easily

Maby go with a cloak hunter. some special smartbomb for disabling cloaks. kind of like the old style WW2 Destroyers

And of course 8 large guns would look silly on such a small hull. So give it 1 gun with an 800% damage bonus.

Alright, fair enough point. How about reduce the number of turrets, then? Cut it in half, say 4 turrets max (same as your average cruiser). Then leave hit points the same (read: weak). Longer range, less tracking, etc, same as the flying banana and the rest.

Definitely not. You'd end up with gatecamps full of the damn things and it would overnight turn all cov-ops ships into station-spinners.

Yup, fair enough. I just thought it was worth pointing out that destroyers already have laughable HP in many cases (basically: not Thrasher).

And perhaps another turret or two, or a 10% damage per level bonus. That could really kill something quick, but still be blown away without a second thought if they get a clean shot on you.

Think farther man. 1st there would be some limit to distance between these ship or we'd end up just like that gatecamp you described. 2: the Smartbomb would also be chance based, 1:50 odds sound about right. 3: as it is cloak dosent give you an advantage in battle by being able to pop out, fire and pop back into cloak.

Where exactly would you "hunt cloak" if not at gates?

The only destroyer I'd be missing would be a plain T2 variant with role boni for damage... kind of the "assault destroyer". I would not expect anything special. Just about a similar advancement than a cruiser to an heavy assault ship. But on the other side... that would probably make complexes and missions allowing "below cruiser size" much easier to handle which could involve more balancing to be applied in some way... on the other side... a destroyer is already some kind of "frigate with more weapons"... so maybe there might be simply no open rule to fit more destroyers without creating something totally overpowered or just a new hull for something that already exists. Does anyone have an idea? A logistic destroyer maybe? A covert destroyer as a ship that could be fitted as exploration ship and still have some high slots to kill some frigate class rats for radar and mag complexes? Or maybe some "frigate sniper" role having bonus to optimals? Considering as a snipe fitting with medium sized weapons you can also hit frigates on decent range I am not sure if that would be even something usefull other than that you did not have a "glass cannon" but rather a soap bubble cannon that goes boom as soon you touch it. Big smile But in the end such "toys" make EVE what it currently is. :)

lol i love that soap bubble cannon thing, make it fragile like an attack frigate but have longer range, slower movement, big gun (8 mediums or 1 large with 150% bonus or anything that's "balance in CCP mind") , low tracking, etc

why stop there? why not capital weapons? or even better why not a doomday device or fighterbombers?
