Who says they don't have another TES single player in the pipeline. They have a long history of starting the next game project before they even release the one they are working on now. Even with their toolset they have used for every game they have made since Morrowind it still takes them 3 years to complete a game. TES is Bethseda's holy grail I don't think they are going to do anything to screw it up.

EDIT: You can always tell when Besthseda is gearing up for a new project just by looking at their current job openings. LOL

The makers of the TES single player games have nothing to do with ESO. They just sold the lisence to use their intellectual property to another company. It's being lead by people from mythic, so think dark age of camelot/warhammer online. It will have no impact on the making of the single player game series.

By Mythic or by people who have moved on from mythic?

By zenimax online studios. Just noticed the guy in charge is ex-mythic employee. Didn't dig deeper.

Afaik, It's being made a Bethesda internal studio that is staffed by a few ex-Mythic devs. But the internal studio making it is NOT Bethesda Game Studios (the studio that made all the sp ES games and Fallout 3).

Also, I personally believe TESO is going to fail, hard. I don't think there's a place for sub based MMO's anymore, there's too many good, free alternatives. The only sub-based MMO I can see succeeding in the future is whatever Blizzard roll out to replace WoW.

The trouble with trying to topple WoW isn't that no one can propduce a 'better' game. WoW has a huge number of people playing it, a large percentage of which will have friends in the game they enjoy playing with and they are unlikely to jump ship to another MMO without their buddies. Plus MMO tend to come with switching/unsubbing inertia due to the time we invest in them.

Deposing WoW will be like deposing facebook. No one is going to release a WoW (or FB) killer, rival companies just have to wait until WoW screws up badly enough to cause mass desubbings, and the company who has the game with the most customizable avatars out at the time, will clean up.

Seems everything about ESO will blow it out of the water. Any bets on how long WOW will last once ESO is released?

If I had a dollar for every time someone made a post like this I could afford to have you all killed by professional assassins.

You do realize on what game's forum you're posting this, right?

The reason "sub based mmo's don't work" is because they all tried to appeal to people who are playing WoW, not because the subscription model is outdated. EVE (and to a lesser extent, Ultima Online) is proof of this.

Why would people who play WoW want to play another game that's like WoW but only has 1% of the content? This is why they fail.

If TESO plays it's cards right, it could appeal to a different market - The people who like to play the TES games and other singleplayer MMO's. People who may not have played WoW before, or did but didn't like it because it's not like the games they usually play. TESO doesn't need millions of subscribers to be a success either...

Edit: What free alternatives are actually good? And ask yourself, are they actually free?

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

I don't think WoW is or ever was the definitive MMORPG.

To me the definitive MMORPG is still Starwars Galaxies Pre Combat Upgrade.

Still to this day I have yet to see another MMO that is better than SWG pre-CU.

The closest thing I have found is EvE. So here I am.

The worst thing about WoW though is sooo many other developers have tried to copy it. The inital success
of WoW though wasn't because of the quality of the game. It was because of the huge blizzard fan base.
In reality the game wasn't very good. Although it's light years better now, it still has a lot of lame aspects.

The game to copy though is SWG, they had it right.
