Asteroid missing in belts

So, I accepted the 6th mission in the Industry Agent mission: mining several minerals to make a 20 X Cap Booster 25. Great. Off I go to my local asteroid belt... and nothing. I can't find any rocks. I went to another and another, all across the system, and each belt showed no asteroids.

I did some begging for help on the rookie channel and some google research and discovered that the asteroids run out. Great! I accepted a mission with a time limit that can't be completed in my area of hi-sec space. I lost out on 100K isk bonus. That's no big deal to a vet pilot, but to me, who is buying skillbooks as I go, it's a real loss.

I barely know how to fly, so I'm definitely not ready to go into low-sec or null-sec for a couple hundred grand. I've learned that the asteroids respawn in the belts. Can anyone tell me which days and times that happens? I don't want to accept a mission like that again that can't reasonably be accomplished.

Thanks.

Go to the next system and mine them? Or is the mission restricting you to one system?

Couple of reasons:

1.) You could have missed the asteroids if you were looking at the overview and they aren't shown there.

2.) They could be depleted. Each asteroid in EVE only holds a certain amount of ore before they are depleted. Being in a busy system with miners means belts get cleared quicker.

What you can do is move a couple of systems (by using gates). This will likely still be high-sec and now low or null and mine the stuff there.

Or you can buy the minerals needed from the market to build the items.

3.) Asteriods (and all other stuff in EVE) respawn during the daily server downtime (Server downtime is at 11:00 EVE-time / UTC)

You can also do as I did on that mission, I wanted to move on without building the items. You can just buy the thing he asks you to make from the market and complete the mission in about the time it took me to type this. I already knew how to use the manufacturing interface from a previous mission so I just bought the cap boost thingys.

In fact I actually came out on top ISK wise as the bonus was more than the price I paid for the boosters.

Got it. I'm still feeling my way along, so I like doing the things they ask in the tutorials. I think it's good experience. But now that I know when the respawn happens I'll know when it's smart to mine.

Thanks.

Another thing to watch out for in the future (in case you end up going that route).

Missions are reset during down-time too if you haven't shot / completed the final trigger.

This means you can crawl your way through multiple rooms and jsut before you can finish the final room DT can make you start all over again.

OR

You could have just shot the final trigger rat in the last room but didn't loot the item from the wreck you need to complete the mission. Server downtime doesn't reset the mission cause that final rat was killed, yet it also clears all wrecks in EVE. This makes it impossible to complete the mission (though if this happen, petition it to CCP and they could reset it for you if you ask nicely). But best is to prevent running a new mission just before downtime.

Unless its a mission like Angel Extravaganza where most of the reward is from the rats bounties, then you DO want it to reset :)

Which means...Do not shoot the final trigger.

So why didn't you do that in this case?

All the industry career tutorial instructions for this mission are more or less the same and say something like this:
Quote:
I've got a friend at a nearby station who's in need of a shipment of 20 units of Cap Booster 25. Make me up two batches – you'll need mexallon, pyerite, and tritanium – and bring 'em back here so I can look 'em over.

The following objectives must be completed to finish the mission:

Bring Item Objective
Acquire these goods:

Drop-off Location 1.0 Embod IV - Moon 10 - Pator Tech School

Item 20 x Cap Booster 25 (20.0 m³)
Where does it say anything about mining?

I'm not trying to be hard on you here, but it's very important to read mission briefings thoroughly and not make assumptions.

Sometimes properly reading and understanding the mission requirements can be the difference between a successful mission and a trip home in your pod.

As a rule of thumb you can safely assume that every asteroid in every belt of every tutorial system will be sucked dry within one hour of server launch.
