back when i was married, my wife told me our explorer's gas gauge was inaccurate and it had problems starting for a day or two. weird, because it only had 70k miles on it

I get underneath and the tank was bashed in like she went crawling with it. on my way to the auto parts store with my awareness heightened a bit, i noticed some damage to a median near our condo. looked like she made a u-turn but accelerated a little much and didn't straighten out in time.

tank was still serviceable, but the pump i changed out was warped. and of course, the pickup is near the floor of the tank and the vertical structure of the pump assembly transferred the force right up the body of it.

the next time I had her with me, it started with, "wow, that's really odd... i wonder if they were drunk" looking at the median. on the way back I did it again and she was like, "ok, you KNOW it was me" and it started another fight, and it didn't help i thought it was hilarious she was stressed about some wood surrounding a planter in the median (so much that she didn't think she should tell me, when we had been through quite a bit together)...

well. good times. but she is my ex-wife.

Here's one of the pickup when I decided to finally do some body work to it. 2 rear end crashes and driving of a cliff tends to bang it up a little. It took 45 minutes to pry the bumper away from the body far enough so we could even get to the bolts. Then we backed out of the garage and ran a hand winch through the wheel well and connected the other end to my dad's truck and pried the mount back out with force. Gave it a new fender and shaped the other one a little so it wouldn't catch the tire, then used zip ties to hold the parking lights in.

That brings back "fond" memories of working out in the field while I was with Schlumberger. To say some of our more "special" operators couldn't drive a 40 tonne pump unit off road would be an understatement.

If anyone is still interested.....

The problem was a really really dirty throttle body. 2 hours, 2 cans of TB cleaner, and 2 cans of American pisswater later, the truck is purring like new. The wife is purring. I'm going to be happy.

EDIT:

Forgot to mention, had to do a proper PCM reset.

a valentines thread full of sad stories and car shop talk. Lol

maybe i'll bring a little cheer into it if i can.

valentine's day this year was actually the high point of a very emotionally and physically demanding week for me. subtle and romantic and did a very good job of helping me put a stressful situation out of my mind for a few hours. lol...even though the smell of the dinner i made that night (crab legs, lobster...the bf is from the outer banks of NC originally and is crazy about seafood) still lingers in the air around the house...slightly reminiscent of low tide around a dock. it was good though. i even tried to imitate red lobster's cheddar biscuits with limited success rofl.

i didn't hear any complaining though. and i was surprised with a very thoughtful gift that made me feel very appreciated. =)

I want to apologize profusely for things I did while I was married, but there's still a year to go just to be sure any possible statutes of limitations have expired.

:-D

Words alone can not begin to express the awesomeness of that.

I should show it to our Harley motorcycle riding marines at work.
