Do capsuleers sleep?

Just something that came across my mind on a long roam. There is a bed in the captain's quarters so they must sleep in stations. However, sleeping in a pod is something else entirely. Because the capsuleer is connected to the ship itself, would falling asleep cause the ship to shut down? What about dreaming in a pod?

The capsule has redundancy measures to keep you from falling asleep in it. It'll pump SO MUCH caffeine into you. However, there are limits to the human body, such that at least once during every 24 hour period, you'll get at least 30 minutes or so of sleep. CONCORD mandates that this time period occurs every day between roughly 11:00 and 11:30 to keep terrible things from happening.

In later years tho, capsuleers seem to have been avoiding this CONCORD mandate, only sleeping down to, or less than, ten minutes.

Now I know why it is that no matter how much coffee I guzzle, I always pass out at that exact time...always.

*YOU* are the capsuleer. When you sleep, the 'capsuleer' is sleeping and an automatic AI is watching the ship.

Well, capsuleers do always try to push against the system, after all P

Is it possible to turn off these redundancy measures? Since to my understanding only larger capital ships allow capsuleers to exit their pod in-flight, so anything smaller would have to dock once a day (or at least once every few days) if they can't sleep properly while inside the pod.

Any ship equipped with the cross-capsule gantry can do that - not sure exactly what ships it's limited to, but... vOv

Also, getting out of your capsule works wonders for bypassing stuff like that.

I'd take a warm bed over a bunch of goop any day (or night, as it were).

You can sleep perfectly fine in your pod. Recently I was planning to dock up for a good bath and a fresh meal, planning to get a good nights rest. Turns out I fell asleep before getting out of my pod!

What if you could just re-clone every time you got tired, too? What psychological effects would that have on the brain; that constant "continuity"? What happens to the human mind after 100 hours awake? 1,000? 10 years?

It's a fascinating question. I once hoped to dig into it myself, so I hope other capsuleers explore it and share their thoughts and speculation!

This post by Falcon states that anything sub-supercapital doesn't have the proper equipment to allow a capsuleer to exit the pod in-flight. Hence why I asked if it's possible to turn off the "redundancy measures", since otherwise a capsuleer piloting a sub-supercapital ship is artificially limited from spending more than a few days away from a station.

It occurs to me that (according to crew guidelines) if you're going to gut a ship (say a cruiser sized ship) of 700 - 200 = 500 (max) or 200 - 10 = 190 (min) living quarters when you install a capsule aboard. There might be just enough room for an internal pod gantry... somewhere... *stares poignantly*

Otherwise we're talking 20,000 - 1000 = 19,000 minimum (supercarrier) crew quarters/support areas having to be removed before there's enough room for what amounts to a goo pump and a shower. Roll

Do capsuleers dream during this mandated period?
