I've been fitting my tormentor with an ab and I'm wondering if this is a bad idea. I prefer it because it doesn't get shut down by scram so i don't get stuck going 150 speed. I have very little experience though so i'm concerned i'm screwing myself. I'm hoping to find a group to do pvp with and I don't want to show up looking like a tard with my ab.

Yes. Use an afterburner to give you a better chance to dictate the terms of the fight. Being able to get in close and orbit your target inside their gunnery range can seriously frustrate slower opponents with poor tracking weapons.

Note that even an afterburner has counters though, such as webs or faster targets moving out of range with their MWD. Some people will go dual prop in those cases with both an MWD and AB, to give them more options in combat. Expect to lose lots of frigates while you get a feel for while style works best for you, because no matter how you equip your ship, you'll always run into somebody who is a step ahead anyway.

Both the AB and MWD have their uses.

Which you choose depends on your personal playstyle, the type of fights, the type of fleets (if you are in fleets), etc.

This is true. People really get mad if your skills allow you to go so fast with a t2 MWD that cruisers cant hit you. Also, in many situations with pvp, you may have to escape, and any way to leave quickly is beneficail.

I prefer MWD on bigger ships, but AB is more handy on frigates in most situations. Well except for interceptors. Always use MWD on ceptors. That's assuming we're talking about PvP. In PvE I use AB on everything since cap is more important.
