Personally, I'm going to list my top 5. But, you can do it however you like. Talk about your all-time favorite or do a list of 5 like me. However you want!

(rank 5) William Hartnell, First Doctor -- The first and original, William Hartnell set the bar and the prime example of who the Doctor was and what he was all about. This is where it all stems from.

(rank 4) Christopher Eccleston, Ninth Doctor -- They always say you never forget your first Doctor. Well, incarnation nine was mine. Tennant may have taken the torch and carried on very well, mind you, but Eccleston was the man that brought Doctor Who back to where it needed to be. This version was dark, changed by war, scary crazy at times, and someone you'd easily follow anywhere. A good sense of authority. Doctor number nine was... well... Fantastic!

(rank 3) Patrick Troughten, Second Doctor -- The first truly whimsical version of the Doctor and the first to wear a bow tie (which is cool). This incarnation was simply all over the place and felt like the true example of how "fun" traveling with the Doctor can be. "When I say run, run.... RUN!"

(rank 2) Tom Baker, Fourth Doctor -- He's my favorite classic-era Doctor. Baker took the Doctor character to dynamics that were entertaining, smart, and just plain fun. And what presence he had. Never thought a scarf was cool until I watched this version of the timelord in action. "Would you like a jellybaby?"

(rank 1) Matt Smith, Eleventh Doctor -- He's my favorite, not simply because he's the newest model, but he feels like an amalgamation of traits of previous Doctors that I like. He's got the wit, the whimsy, and the heroic qualities that I like. Plus, he wears a bow tie. Bow ties are cool.

I've only have seen the first season of the new Who on Netlix and I really liked that Doctor. When they changed to the next guy after the Bad Wolf story line my interest in the show dropped. I just didn't care for that Who that everyone else seems to love.

David Tennent is in my mind, The Doctor.

I've only seem the new stuff in full when being broadcast and seen some of the older stuff... Not sure how the top 5 would play out, but I need my cheesy 3d glasses to make the Doctor

I am not a hardcore "Whovian" or however those guys call themselves, but since the most episodes I have seen were with Tennant, he's easily my favourite.
I mean, come on, he's the guy from the "Blink" episode...

Christopher Eccleston is my favorite doctor, but I only watch it because I like to look at Billie Piper.

Tom baker. The others i've seen are good...But Tom will always be the Dr.

Hoovians my arse. It's like Trekkies are now calling themselves trekkers..... you're not fooling anyone guys. As a Doctor Who fan ever since I was old enough to hide behind the sofa, I've always thought of myself as a Who'er.

Tom Baker is to my mind synonymous with Dr Who, but you can't really compare the wobbly sets and caves with strangely perectly flat floors of the old time Dr Who with the reboot. Tom's hammy brand of quirky pathos was perfect for the time and feel of the old series, and he starred in my favourite ever Dr Who; Genesis of the Daleks. Of the other earlier Doctors I quite liked Jon Pertwee and his oddly serious take on the role but after Tom the rest of them were universally terrible, although a special place in somewhere warm has to be reserved for Silvester McCoy - the guy that finally stopped me watching it.

Eccleston was a revelation. Wonderfully dark and gritty and a world away from the kitchness of the old Who. I was even surprised to find myself almost forgiving Billie Piper for her (thankfully short lived) musical career as she turned in a sterling performance as Rose Tyler. I was hoping that after Ecclestone's far too short a stint as The Doctor that they'd keep it as dark as the first series of the reboot, but all good things come to an end.

Tennant I thought would be absolute ****, but turned out to be excellent. Blink was probably the best of the new Dr Who stories and one of my younger nephews was phobic of statues for years afterwards.... reminded me of my recurring nightmares as a child of the Sea Devils and The Brain of Morbius.

Only fly in my ointment with the new version was Catherine ******* Tate. Why the BBC feel the need to squeeze the desperately untalented, unfunny and thick as pigshit trollop into everything they produce is beyond me. Nearly stopped me watching it. Props to the Beeb for exhuming the corpse of Bernard Cribbins to play her Grandad though. Some of you may remember he was in one of the feature films way back as a companion of the doctor and at least he can act... shame it never rubbed off on Tate, the blobby ginger witch.

The new guy, Matt Smith, I'm not struck on. He's OK I suppose, but nothing fantastic and Ecclestone and Tennant would be hard acts for anyone to follow so maybe it's just a case of him comparing to those two fine actors badly.

Also, what the **** did they think they were doing giving Derek Jacobi on such a small stint as The Master?
What a criminal waste of an opportunity; he'd have made a perfect long term Master - the brief flash of cultured malevolance as he recovered his memory of who he was promised greatness that was sadly unfulfilled by John Simm's (admittedly not bad) version... just think Jacobi would have been perfect for the long haul.

Meh I could go on and on for days about Dr Who. Suffice to say I'm a Who'er; always have been.

I did really like Ecclestone, he would be my number 6.

That right there is pretty much the only reason I've considered many times to continue with the series.

I liked Eccleston. I could do without Billie Piper though. Something about the shape of her face...I dunno. Martha, on the other hand...
