The logs can only show an occurrance if it affects the server, they cannot show something that occured on your client computer (and could be altered if they requested them from you).

I have had a couple of instances where I petitioned and logically they could not substanciate it from the logs. As it turned out the issue was totally client side or an issue somewhere between the client and the server. This makes sense and is completely understandable.

I have also had several issues that were immediately substanciated by the server logs and dealt with accordingly.

This is nothing new or unusual in any way, it just happens to be something that most people do not feel the need to comment on as they are well satisfied with the results.

Kudo's to the OP for pointing out this particular instance.

Ive only had a couple if instances where I felt the need to petition for a loss, and I both times things were resolved to my satisfaction. One was when I was recalling probes and the sever crashed during the process. I got my sisters probes refunded. The other was some POS guns that would not unanchor, but actually came on-line and tried to shoot me despite the lack of a control tower. CCP destroyed the guns and refunded new ones.

Once a corp mate used drones from his orca to blow up a blue wreck, clicking through the (pre-crimewatch II) warning. CONCORD releaved him of the Orca and the Hulk it was carrying. He felt it was a bug ( it was not) and petitioned it. Customer services took pity on him and refunded the lost ships.

There are some things you can do to help.

The server can only log information it gets from the client, and information it sends to the client. It cannot log that you clicked a button and the packet got lost. So think about what happened: is it something that the server saw happen?

Next: Be polite. Don't demand, request

Then: Give as much information as you can in a concise manner. include what matters, leave out what does not. Your goal is to make their job as easy as possible.

My most recent reimbursement petition was for a loss to station guns after shooting a WT POS in LS extended my GCC long after I had stopped shooting neutrals.
The logs showed what happened, and I was reimbursed.

The previous petition was for a loss caused my the well publicized issues the Mac client has. The logs did not show anything, as the problems were entirely client side, and I was not reimbursed.

Seems to be how things work.

I lost a moros once in a crash, petitioned it and logged in the next day to a new moros, ironicly enough that's the only ship i've actually had reimbursed.

I that my last probes in a wormhole got destroyed due to an unexpected downtime. They asked what station I would like those probes returned to.

I've never filed a petition. But if I ever did, you can bet your sweet breasts it would be when I was drunk-flying something I couldn't afford to lose.

And the logs would almost certainly show nothing.

I never get anything back from petitions, I always threaten to unsub, but never do.

I Hate CCP, GM's and CONCORD.

Damn the logs, Damn TiDi, Damn stable server nodes! Damn you all!

*breaks down and weeps*

But if I quit now my training queue would stop, I'd miss that epic PvP with that ship I can't fly until next week, or that chat with those guys who cried about losing their ships, or the friend who thought I was ok but I wasn't and didn't rep me, who I then threaten to permadec ... and I can't stop now even though CCP wont replace my shuttle that was lost in a bubble in HED ... I can't stop now.

That's just beautiful!
More trolling like that from Support would be hilarious :)

My personal interactions with Support have all been exceptional. Many thanks to all those working Support; customers/clients suck, and you guys have a thankless job. The only petitions I am uncertain about are the bot/RMT petitions, but I figure if the cases are as legit as they seem and if CCP wants to deal with it, they will. I just report them as I find them and verify as best I can, and don't worry too much after that.

Posting in an old thread that should have turned to ashes long ago,
just like the logs that keep being pointed out. As this is thread got necro'd,
i feel free to tell you about my past.

I clearly remember the good old days, when we used logs to heat our home.
Or was it coal ? Well, that doesn't matter. I clearly remember that distinct smell
spreading across my home. It's a comfy warmth ... and back when i was a little kid,
looking at the fire and feeling the heat in my eyes ... was quite amazing for me.

What baffled me even more, though, was the small amount of ashes,
compared to these huge logs we've used. (coal?) It's odd how something so big
can turn into something so small.

Maybe the GMs will, some day, change their message from "show nothing"
to "shows ashes", to remind everybody of the good old days when we all used wood (COAL?!)
to warm our houses and our hearts ... especially at christmas.

I once got a Bestower back, CCP ejected it from my POS every day, then put back at downtime. Lol

One day, it was sitting 200 off the pos and someone popped it. CCP reimbursed, but still claimed the logs show nothing....
