My thoughts and prayers to any of our Russian capsuleers who may have had the misfortune of being a casualty of this event.

http://rt.com/news/russia-meteor-meteorite-asteroid-chelyabinsk-291/

That is just one of the numerous articles now on the web, but as it comes from Russia, it's probably more accurate.

We have another event today, meteorite 2012DA14, live streaming of the entire event from NASA.GOV.

METEORITE IMPACT IN RUSSIA

Hundreds injured, unknown amount of casualties, wide spread devastation from the shock wave, state of emergency declared.

Now we have a headline.

I would be very curious to know the size, velocity, and mass of this meteor, or meteors, that hit the atmosphere.
The big one today doing the flyby is someting like 45 metres across.

Interesting. I wonder how much it'll be to get bits of it...

We live in amazing times. I'm just happy RT News didn't blame it on the US as they usually do most things.

I hope they recover quickly that was a really big one: shooting stars, pretty till a big one doesn't dissolve to the size of a baseball before it hits...

id really like a piece of meteorite one day, most of them look pretty amazing when sliced open.

Quite correct. I have requested that this thread be moved to OOPE.

I guess it's time for the U.S. to play World Police again and protect the civilized world from the barbarians at the gates from outer space. Who do we invade for this naked aggression against civilizationcapitalism? What would Carl Sagan do?

Me wonders if all the porkers in europe simultaneously stood on a table and threw themselves to the ground before
The asteroids passes it might affect the earths orbit enough.

The irony of all this is even if they knew the asteroid was going to hit they would say nothing.
You'd be like munching your caramel flavoured honey loops and the next you'd be like fiery ejection material hurtling off into
Space.

Fun times.

Did you actually search before you created this post?

I made my post about the same case almost 3 and a half hours before you did.

Here is my post: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2617709

So we don't need 2 topics about the same thing.

Here is a list of my current EVE / PVP videos:

1: Asteroid Madness

2: Clash of the Empires

3: Suddenly Spaceships fighting in Tama

BBC News wrote:
One Russian politician said the event was not a meteor shower but a US weapons test, Russia's Interfax news agency reported.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the leader of the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democratic Party, was quoted as saying: "Meteors are falling. Those are not meteors, it is Americans testing their new weapon."
