Since i love those things about space, meteors and planets, then i'm also gonna post this.

You can see more information about this here: http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2013/02/15/breaking_huge_meteor_explodes_over_russia.html

To me that looks kinda scary when it comes towards you in some of the videos. But damn, it looks cool to Shocked

Wonder how much damage a meteor like that would have made to that city if it had come through as a whole meteor.

Learned something new today : Russian cars have car DVRs installed to record accidents etc. Apparently required by law(?).

I'm surprised you're not there claiming all the fragments for the glory of the Veldgod.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Not really required by law, but insurance fraud and police corruption is so widespread that you are far better off with some video evidence, as in: you are screwed if you don´t have it. So everyone in russia is recording video evidence.

I got lost in thought... it was unfamiliar territory.

Eve is real? Lol

Well there are some amazing videos on this event. They are lucky it was not another Tunguska level event, I can't imagine the destruction that would have caused.

A meteor, nearly impacked a freaking Nuclear power plant? Shocked

Holy **** on a **** and ***** sandwich.

If ever there was a good reason to start funding a Meteor defence system, or at least quadruple the current observation operations : this was it.

It's really just wild.

What's frightening though is if this had occurred 30 years ago during the Cold War, we would all probably be annihilated right now.

I uploaded this video clip from the 'Armageddon' movie to YouTube that could indicate what kind of destruction such a meteor would do if the whole meteor would hit the ground.

Now i'm not sure if the meteor in this video clip is bigger than the meteor in Russia.

What gives a hint on the magnitude of the explosion is the time that passes between the meteorite coming down and the shock wave hitting. In some videos it was several minutes. So despite the explosion happening some dozens kilometers away, it still is powerful enough to shatter windows.

Compared to what mother nature can unload on us, mankind's nuclear arsenal is firecrackers.
