Does anyone think the male portraits turn out so much better than the female ones?

As clones of 'evolved' humans, shouldn't characters look a little weird anyway, regardless of gender? I found the charm of the old avatars was in the exaggerated features.

I agree though, OP. Male avatar faces tend to have more personality.

Well, one of the main itches with the current creator is how every clothing choice looks very 2010, as opposed to the original creator and early prototpying of clothing. Same goes for tattoos and piercings, which are going out of date even in our days.

Another usual complaint is hairstyles, which are quite generic and most of them don't really work nor make a difference.

And one of my pet complains is how the creator includes a mostly useless selection of ear piercings (I can't recall to have seen more than a handful of them ever used) and yet didn't provides any actual earrings.

Anyway avatars are a non-issue and my guess is that we must get used to them as they are unitl CCP revisits the whole character creator. Provided the old one lasted for 7 years, maybe in 2017 we'll be able to make characters who look like they live 23,000 years in the future and not in some London slum in the 2010's...

Yeah, it really took me awhile to get Kokoro how I wanted her. But that's part of the fun of it I think.

After seeing so many character design examples via this thread mainly, I'm now considering redesigning my character a bit. Do I have to purchase a resculpt or do I get one free pass to do it or something?

Regardless, I think I can do better. Both in design and pose.

You better roll that first 'R' when you say my name. Seriously.

You look pretty good. The Hair colour can be changed for free.

On a side note here's a great portrait I found

https://gate.eveonline.com/Profile/Arrs%20Grazznic

And one I just love:

Because he looks so human. He looks almost exactly like a guy I knew in highschool.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

maybe you just like men

there is geometry and art theory to an attractive face. the requirements for handsome male faces [strong jaw lines, squareness] are such that EVE's face constructor is better suited for them. wrangling an attractive female face [soft features, proper ratios] with the EVE face constructor is difficult for the person with enough of an artistic background to draw or paint one--it's going to be a mess for the lay person who doesn't know what they're doing.

I would like to add, in my artistic opinion the cutest avatar I've ever seen is Commissar Kate

You should just see Miiral. Her last portraits don't show, but she is goddess-like perfect.

As for arts background... well, sure that it helps, but I mostly use my aesthetical sense as a guidance. I modify protraits so that they look good, albeit half the time I just work upon something that showed accidentally and I wasn't looking for. Also too often I "break the lock" and it just stops looking right and no effort will make it look right again.

Formal knowledge would help, obviously, but all in all i am not displeased with my ability to make portraits which will score high in the avatars thread. And all my girls are pretty and quite hot. Lol

getting defensive, are we? it's dangerous to use your emotions as proof

Commissar Kate's portrait is also framed well, and the choice of shirt for its simple neckline leads me to believe the person who created Commissar Kate knows what they are doing. it's also the consistency throughout portrait updates.

if it's not on purpose, that is some serious natural talent.

as for me, I've been known to do some art here and there... this is old, and I have more recent sketches if anyone is curious. that link is a digital freehand drawing over a freehand sketch. (chun li)

I can lay out some of that geometry and color theory after class is out and my weekend starts tonight. (if anyone cares)

I will agree that quite a large portion of the female avatars look quite a bit "odd" but that could easily be chalked up to either the engine doesn't "do" Women well or that the majority of females are designed by...how shall we say, "demanding" males who wants certain features to be over emphasised and as such they end up looking like cracked out bobble-heads with baloon chests.

All of that being said I am damned handsome! Do I make you horn nee?!

Is it just me, or does Rain6637 look like she's bald with a big head. No offense, just at quick glance that's what I see.
