Salvage destroyers are the king of quick salvage in the early game and salvage is also very good early money if you know where to look. Other ideas are long range artillary for both kiting and good alpha / isk ratio. Destroyers are good for killing frigs as long as they aren't too fast, you can fit a decent tank and plenty of guns. In my oppinion destroyers provide more mission versatility than most frigates but pay for the extra options with less speed and menouverability, and no specialisation other than killing. In gangs destroyers are often used for small time ganks due to the high alpha hit available from all those high slots.

Do the advanced combat set of career missions. You get a free destroyer at the end of them.

For missioning, I used my Comorant for quite some time before getting my cruiser. Only 1 level 1 mission I can recall that gave me a rough time. After I joined my corp, I was particularly handy for killing frigates and destroyers in level 4''s.

And to reiterate Jenn, you will receive your racial destroyer and the skill book at the end of the Advanced Military tutorial missions. If I recall, one of the early Sisters of Eve missions also grants the Destroyer skill book.

Just incase you're curious about fitting, a good place to look is on battleclinic. Search for PVE versions of whichever destroyer you're using.

Hello Isometric Isotope,

I consider Destroyers being good fun. And the best thing? The have lots of gun! The drawback is that they don't have a big tank. Back in the days I used a Thrasher with a gyrostabilizer, auxiliary power unit, afterburner and artillery - and that was funny. But you can find a lot of different fittings as well. Don't be afraid of playing around a bit - destroyers are not too expensive.

The current Destroyers in EvE (there's a faint rumour that they're getting a buff) are very much like their WW1 and 2 namesakes.

Designed to remove annoying small boats and stop them harrassing the big boys.

In EvE that means that they're good at cleaning out frigs, with their serious amounts of guns.

There's of course a more creative way to use them in EvE, using their serious amounts of guns and that is to build a cheap, high alpha (volley/first strike) ship that can create a lot of damage before it's blown to bits (normally by Concord).

In a slightly less adoring way to describe them is that it's two normal T1 frigs, joined with glue (or tape).

Loads of guns/hislots, marginal mids and lows, marginal more HP, a bit fat and slow.

They are mean to T1 frigs and lowend drones, they are easymeat to Cruisers and T2 drones.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

If the rumoured destroyer buff changes will happen this winter I'm selling 5 of my BCs and buying 50 Dessies. Then I will kill 50000 frigates...and maybe a Titan P

Note that T2 destroyers, so called Interdictors, are incredibly useful ships in 0.0, especially the Sabre. So training Destroyer will always make you popular P
