Since the word is half the name of my alliance, I really have to ask:

Is it

[ 'ta lo can ]

or

[ ta 'lo can]

?

We've been saying it both ways in my alliance, and the question bugs me.

I use this.
[ 'ta lo can ]

But since language is a living thing whatever becomes the most commonly used manner of pronouncing a word could be considered the proper one. Or so I'm told.

Thinking about it, I think I use both.

TA-lo-can when talking about the civilization in itself - i.e: as a proper noun.

ta-LO-can when using it as an adjective, as in Talocan Technology.

But even then I don't use it as a rule or anything, and it's not like I say the word aloud enough to have to settle on a pronounciation. For now I figure it's still pretty fluid in my head-jar.

I agree with Mr. Fry (nice link Auwnie). Language is a living thing, and there is no "right" way to pronounce Talocan.

Personally, I pronounce the "Talo" like "Halo" and the "Can" like "Man" but that's just me.

My vote goes to "TAL-uh-can", personally.
