So, after my failed attempt with my other player I started this one hoping to become a good manufacturer.
I've decided to set up in Anttari, a quiet system 4 jumps away from jita.

after doing some snooping around the forums looking at how and what to make to start off, i choose plasma phased S.

Although I am aware that I am not supposed to be expecting any large profit, I feel that making less than 100,000 Z of it is just ...
Horrid
Am i doing something wrong?
should i not be selling at jita?
help please

You need to do your own research. People don't give away their secrets. That said, Jita has lower prices on everything. You might want to try building near another market or missioner hub if you can't sell in Jita at a decent profit.

More info.

Did you acquire the minerals using buy orders, or sell orders, or mining it.?
Did you sell it to Buy orders, or put up your own sell order?
Do you have Accounting 5/broker relation 5 (taxes eat profits)?
Do you have Production efficiency 5?

Jita, you are competing with day traders/station traders, who have gathered there stock below cost (using buy orders), and can afford to go lower than you.

PVP'ers generally buy faction S ammo & T2 S ammo, due to the very low entry barrier for T2 auto-cannons/artillery.

First off, ignore people asking about how you acquired the minerals. They have a value equal to the sell price. Valuing them any lower than that means you're throwing isk away.

The math to work out your profits. make sure to set your details correctly.
http://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/blueprints/184/29/0/0/1

Raw profit margins looks like, with base skills, around 4k per hour. that's 18 or so production runs. /If/ you're selling to buy orders. Selling it yourself increases the margin to around 10k. improving your production efficiency and having a researched blueprint will help more.

I'd recommend, for selling it, look for Minmatar stations (As people are more likely to be using projectile weapons with them), with rank 1 or 2 Agents, and sell there instead. you don't need to have the lowest price in the region. Just that station. As long as it's not too much higher than the surroundings, people will buy it.

The question was raised, to determine how he calculated his "profit", don't jump to conclusions mister!

If you buy minerals from Jita using buy orders, its often the case that it is more profit in just selling the minerals(flipping), rather than building an item. how you acquire them (particularly using buy orders), matters for a great deal for production, as it (helps) determines whether or not to build said item or not.

However always "value" them as per the above quote, and "profit" should be any measured higher, than the sell order price of the minerals.

Also any website/program offering pricing/formulas whatever etc, should be checked against a spreadsheet of your own. (don't do manufacturing unless your prepared to spend the time doing the calculation.)I recommend downloading and using a neat program called "isk per hour", use it to check builds before you start, follow up with a quick check on spreadsheet.

The program, will tell you the "raw material profit" Vs the "Build profit", which is what i'm yammering about.

Do this and mark up 500%, sound advice here, although its just as easy to simply buy the already built item and plant them there for less hassle and technically the same "profit"

You have to admit, it's a fair conclusion to jump to Blink /Most/ people who talk about buy orders, when it comes to making things, are making the MIMAF mistake.

But you have my apologies. Smile

It's Phased Plasma S, just to be picky.

As others have said, Jita may not be the best place to sell this. Better places to sell this IMO would be :

1. Minnie starter systems, you can get a list of all the starter systems off the evelopedia

2. Stations where players are getting faction ammo from the LP store. To obtain faction ammo you supply 5000 units of the ammo plus the LPs so you should be able to sell the T1 ammo in the right station. You would need to do some research on the best places and / or experiment a bit.

For 2. above check market history in Jita Hek and Rens to see which faction ammo s sells best, maybe EMP S is better than PP.

Both of the above are taking you away from competing with Jita traders that either have max trading skills and / or a cheap supply.

I'm showing cost 26.23 per unit on phased s to make (based off of Jita mineral prices).

Looks like it's selling all day in Jita in the 27.00

So yes at Jita it's on the deep deep discount table.

If you wanna make ISK on T1 ammo, you have to willing to park it somewhere for say 30+ days.

Also Phased M and EMP M, much better, but they all sell though.

I've parked T1 ammo in some really strange locations and it's sold, granted it took awhile.

Manufacturing is a massive pain in the ass.

It is the same concept as trading ( Buy low sell high ) only with 4 or 5 ( maybe even 6 ) extra steps you need to complete before you get your money.
