Well, DUST 514 mercs can't take their helmets off, and we Capsuleers can't open the CQ door.

I'd say it's well balanced.

In terms of the ability to leave pod on board a ship, most vessels that are sub super-capital don't have the on board facilities to provide a place for capsuleers to decant and walk around, hence the need for this kind of facility in station. Of course, you're perfectly able to decant and run around on board your ship (in theory at least) while it's docked, just not in space, as it would have catastrophic effects on your ship's systems if you were unsafely disconnected from it mentally while everything was online as your ship and its systems are heavily dependent on pilot knowledge and familiarity to function.

For instance, this is why when your ship is heavily damaged into the last few percent of structure, sometimes if you eject from it, it'll explode due to the fact your skills are no longer applied to it and your overall hitpoints are reduced P

But if you're an RP nut you can eject from your BS in space and gloat manically at the thought of the crew suffering? ^^

Erm, aside from the "maniacal" bit, this is an excellent point.

Isn't "ejecting" as much a "disconnecting" as "decanting"?... I'm pretty sure if I leave my ship floating in space, when I come back to it later, it still works. The decanting facility cant be so complicated that it wouldn't fit aboard at least a cruiser: at 200-350m long axis, most cruisers are about 3-5 city blocks long. And besides, didn't they 'cant' and 'decant' "Lieutenant Hirakii Pirkotan" in the Jovian Wetgrave chronicle? That took place aboard the "Caldari cruiser Okarioni." I think it's quite plausible for us to be taking strolls aboard ship once in a while, assuming we're not trying to make it do anything terribly complicated.

Don't forget that the Capsule Lt Pirkotan was using was a un-modified Capsule, the empires made changes to the Capsule design (dumb it down in a manner of speaking) to make it less dangerous for the non-Jovian capsuleer inside, and the capsule installed onboard was only partially connected to the ship, as it was only used to show the capsule's potential. so empire capsules are slighly less advanced than the jovian versions, so a disconect in space can have more severe repocussions for the pilot.

You know... I always figured that in situations where a ship would have an extended stay outside of a station (like wormhole and some 0.0 dwellers) that when we log off, the capsule opens up so that the pilot can exercise and climb into bed. Without the capsuleer the ship powers down to just life support and sits there until we log back in and... plug ourselves back into the pod.

You can't fly the ship outside the pod, but it can certainly just sit there doing nothing.
