I generally think of myself as a good guy and help people out where I can in EVE.

Like today for example. I met someone a few days back whilst exploring in hi-sec and today he trusted me with 545 mil ISK that he sent across to my character. I sent every single ISK back to him when he asked for it even when he offered to split it 50/50. This was the first time in EVE I felt really conflicted in what to do.

Obviously I could have just kept the money and bailed but I don't think I could ever do something like that to someone and not feel really bad about it after. So all in all I feel good about my choice :P

(No, don't send me ISK in the hope of getting it back! If I don't know you or have ever talked to you then I'm gonna keep it haha!)

So... What nice things have you done for other players in EVE? What nice things have people done for you? Have you ever found being nice pays off? Big smile

I read your comment and clicked on "Like". This is how far I go, but it is also where I stop.

This could be just another scam and you really could be trying to get people to send you ISKs and to test you when you then are going to keep it.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

So, why would a random person send you 545 mil to hold?

You returned money to avoid discomfort because society trained you to experience it in certain circumstances (guilt isn't natural feeling - it's trained) - so you aren't actually good person / altruist. Especially since you are exploiting bragging rights now.

Being nice is the payoff itself - that's why altruists like to remain anonymous (also to avoid harassing as society doesn't like people who are actually good / better than others - check Jesus Christ's story). So no - I won't share information how nice I am =)

Helped buy a newbie his first BC. I had the same help given to me when I started in Eve, so returning the favor felt great.

I'm always willing to offer help and advice to people trying to get into the life of a belligerent undesirable, up to and including logi support and the occasional free boat.

My people are actually very friendly and helpful dudes.

I like to help newer members out by teaching them to fit a ship properly..and when I see that they finally get it..I buy them an identical ship with identical fittings and contract it to them. I also have random giveaways in corp where i will make a large production run of t1 frigs or desis, and ill give all the new members 1 to go play with.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I lent a friend my carrier for the weekend so he could rat with it after a dumb*** FC got his triage carrier blown up for him on a CTA. Helped him make some isk back so he could buy another carrier.

I understand your weariness of the nature of what happened, I also said it in local and someone said they didn't believe someone would just put 500+ mil in to my wallet. Though I'd be happy for a GM to confirm that it did indeed happen and it wasn't my account doing the transfer lol.

The guy wasn't random I met him in a radar site a few days ago and we started chatting, he was just coming back in to the game and I said he could fly with me in level 4's and complexes etc (his character was a day old). Then today he told me a GM managed to get his account details back from his old account back in 2009 and he re-subbed and transferred the money to me for me to give him on his main account. Though tbh I thought you could just transfer money to a person's wallet even if they are offline (haven't tried though).

I didn't mean it to sound braggy, braggy to me would have been to take the money and gloat about it. I don't really have anything to gloat about... I was just wondering if there are any other people like me in the harsh universe that is EVE :P I'm no philanthropist don't get me wrong, but stabbing people in the back when they trust me is just something I can't do.

Like I don't really mind when people get scammed for stupid things like not reading the contract properly but when someone trusts you I don't think I could ever cross that line as you see happening in EVE all the time with spies in alliances etc. Sometimes it makes me feel like I'm missing out on one of the best parts of EVE haha.

That's nice of you ^^ I remember when I first started playing people helping me out with ship fittings too and even giving me free ships to give me a leg up in the game :) People like you rock!

Wow, that is a big risk indeed lol. I don't know if I could ever go that far unless it was a real life friend who I could personally deliver a beat down to if he got it destroyed haha!

Edited the OP to ask what nice things have happened to you from other people!

I helped someone fit a vexor in local chat, and explained the reasoning for the fittings to them.
I put up fairly-priced buy orders in a local newbie system to get hold of minerals. Lower than trade hub prices, but not by much/
And I give advice to the newb my corp recruited lately.
I lured an RL friend back into EVE, and helped him get back on his feet. Moved his stuff, ran missions with him, linked him to COSMOS agents, etc.

Why do I do these things?
Because EVE is hard. I was a newbie once. We were ALL newbies once. And I, for one, was incredibly grateful for any help I got. Now I have knowledge, I feel I should share it.

If I won the lottery I would do this very same thing. Though not to random people but people who worked hard and can't catch a break or who do loads of charity work and never ask for anything in return!

I once forgot to bookmark a wormhole I'd just jumped through, then promptly went and got my ship blown up. Sent a call for help out on Twitter (after one of my RL colleagues declined to help!) and someone actually did come and get me back to high-sec. Can't remember the character name but I still follow them on Twitter Blink

Haha that is nice! When I was exploring with my friend the other day we scanned down a wormhole.. I told him about wormholes collapsing after a day or so and he was intrigued to see the other side of it. I said go through as the chance of it collapsing in the space of 30 seconds was very slim. He was in a destroyer with no probes equipped and truth be told, the worm hole collapsed on him before he entered. So i then explained the importance of having a probe launcher and probes whenever you enter a wormhole is such an event where to happen haha!
