First, that would imply that you ever left the ice belts, which you don't.

Second, you're assuming I don't tank my ship. I survived Hulkaggeddon without a scratch. Compared to the Goons, you little kids couldn't even muss my hair.

Third, bumptards are as routine & predictable as they are mindless, and it's not that hard to ECM flatline a Catalyst.

But go ahead with your delusions of grandeur. I actually enjoy watching you nitwits pretend that you matter to anything.

But what if it is actually James, that'd be a massive anticlimax. I hope it's something like "Quentin", or "Horatio"

Since you don't mine ice, apparently don't AFK, watch local, and actually tank your ship, you are very low on our kill priority, and rightfully so.

Congrats on playing intelligently and ATK.

It really is kinda simple, in the end.

Miner A is ATK, in a tanky Skiff, aligned and mining away. Does he HAVE to pay the fee....I'd say no. We're likely not going to get him. The 10mil indulgence isn't "for" this person. This miner is playing with others and reacting to the game.

Miner B is in a failfit Retty with cargo expanders (I've seen it too much), tabbed out to youtube, sitting on the warp-in. Are we going to get him? Darn skippy we will. This miner is playing singleplayer in a MMOG.

Remarkably, Miner A tends to be the one who pays the permits. He "gets" EVE. Miner B is the one we see whinging on the forum about griefing and extortion and OMG it's not FAIR!

In all honesty, I'd rather a million Miner A's not paying the permit and playing the game with us, than one Miner B paying for a permit.

Well, Areola, that's what you get. The sandbox that the New Order is "saving" is a double-edged sword. You get people who have playstyles that frequently involve interacting with others, and you get people like Miner B. Now in a TRUE sandbox, both are perfectly legit playstyles. ANY playstyle is legit in a TRUE sandbox.

This is why I have a love-hate relationship with the New Order. I love that they encourage ATK play. I hate the fact that they trash and harass solo players while at the same time praising the sandbox nature of Eve, which allows solo play in the first place. It just comes off as hypocrisy to me. To me, Eve is not an MMO. It is a sandbox. There are too many solo options for me to consider this an MMO.

Earlier today, the Dixon Mining Guild and the Butz Manufacturing Corporation formed a coalition.

It's hard to tell if there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the Dixon-Butz Alliance.

Solo does not mean "other folks cannot interact with me". Solo means "Doing it by myself". Even on the most carebeary PVE server on, say WoW, other players interactions could affect your "solo" play. Run around mining (gasp!) in WoW, and other folks hit yer node first.

Nothing in EVE hints that you can "solo nobody interacts with me". It does give "Solo you can play by yourself". One of the consequences of playing alone, in a failfit barge, while not paying attention....is a friendly visit from New Order Code Enforcement.

If you honestly want a solo nobody interact with me EVE style game, I recommend X3. Great game. Even has mining.

Nope.

The absolute majority of those players would just leave.

Cutting down CCP's incomes to a fraction and effectively killing EvE.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

It's a sandbox in that the adults just chuck the sand and a bunch of kids into a box and let them get on with it. If one of the kids wants to go dig holes in the corner on his own, that's fine - the adults don't do anything about it. The adults also don't stop another kid from coming over and breaking his spade.

BREAKING NEWS! High sec players aren't playing EVE! Video at 11.

BTW, someone is gonna have to tell all the Incursioners, miners, industrialists, mission runner, explorers, station traders, lowesc PvP roamers, haulers and socialites that this whole time they haven't actually been playing a video game.

I only pray that once they've been informed we can get them all blue to every null sec alliance ASAP and hopeful teach them how to rat with carrier bots. With a little luck and patience, we can have weekly F1-spamming TiDi fleet actions for giggles and sleep soundly knowing that we finally taught every EVE subscriber how to actually play this video game.

The right way, of course.

As someone who does play in high sec, let me tell you all the glorious things I do.

I run missions in 0.9 space in an overpowered Raven, though overpowering my urge to fall asleep is a bigger challenge than the mission itself.

All the standings from the mission make trading more profitable. It's crazy ISK. All I do is update an order, then alt-tab for five minutes while a handy dandy stopwatch counts down five minutes on the corner of my browser.

For a while I built things and hauled stuff, all afk of course.

I have a bitchin' Mackinaw (bite me mods) that can afk mine while I trade due to the skills that enhance trading range. I don't respond to chat requests because they don't make me ISK.

I'm not the richest but I have this ISK for low effort thing down. But am I having fun? No Id much rather browse Reddit or watch TV while EVE plays itself for me. Am I playing EVE, or am I simply existing within it? I think it is the latter.

Why am I doing this? I don't know man, it's ISK. It wasn't always like this, I had dreams once. When I started EVE I came for the freedom, I came for the big fights and backstabbing, the drama and the treachery, the open-ended wild wild west. I kept telling myself, first Ill make ISK and then someday Ill be rich enough to not care how I spend it, and then actually have fun. The ISK came, but the fun never did.

People like me don't play EVE, we run EVE while we do other things. Imagine selling that to a potential customer. "You'll really like this game, it plays itself while you do other things!"

It never worked. It's a losing pitch.

It's ridiculous that people who want to buff Fortress Highsec think they are doing it for the high sec residents. It's a joke. Most high sec players are one buff away from being so safe they wouldn't even have to contribute that one click per hour that makes them alt tab back to EVE.

Wait, are you talking about the same LowSec PvP roamers that are going to quit if they have to go to LowSec? I'm not sure how your argument is expected to work, but I think I might be able to find a fatal flaw in it somewhere.

The only "solo play" EVE allows is ship-spinning in noob ships. Anything else at all involves other players. Buy another ship to shipspin with? Well someone else had to manufacture that. You also reduced the number of that ship available to other players to purchase by one. Mining? You deplete asteroids other people may have used. Sell the minerals? You affect the prices of minerals, and ships and modules for everyone else. Etc.

There is no solo in EVE.

So given the fact that I have three toons, and I never leave the keyboard with my ships undocked. One in Hulk, one in an Orca, and one currently in a venture. Pretty much you will leave me alone. Right? I might always be aligned because most BMs I make are at ends of belts and I just move from one end to the other. I have lately also gone looking for trouble. I find the new flagging system fun. Pick up a suspect flag and hope some vigilante engages me. Not all miners are total carebears. Some of us get bored or drunk, and go out and find something to shoot.

I try to be nice and mind my business just shooting lasers at rocks. There is just way too many asshats in New Eden for that to happen.

Not leaving the keyboard isn't enough, really. As long as we can, we're likely to blow you up. If you make it so that we actually can't, we probably won't, and we're fine with that.
