Problem: No local clock in game.

Solution: Create a clock on the Neocom.

Details:

There can be a clock just above or below the server time on the Neocom, this clock can be adjustable by the user VIA either the Options by hit ESC or by right clicking on the clock its self to set or make changes to the time.

This clock should be settable in the same fashion that you set your computers clock IE; -01:00 00:00 +01:00 and so on.

Please discuss this and please no mean comments. Thank you for reading.

I don't see how this required a quote of the first post but sure I will role with it, and I realize that these are viable options but that still does not make the idea of a local clock in game any less appealing.

I have EVE in full screen windowd mode, if I need to see local time, I press the window logo key to have my start bar come to the foreground, look at time and then click back into an eve window.

I do agree though, to an extent, perhaps when one mouses over the time displayed in eve, the popup could show your local time.
In several ways its just a PITA to auto-detect this stuff, many variables to test for depending on how its gone about.

The reason eve time is UTC is because everyone is from different countries, coordinating efforts using UTC is far easier than any other way to coordinate, so eve should always show UTC over any other time - by default. all other times should require some intention to seek that detail.

I too play full screen and check the time in the same fashion. I agree witht he scroll over idea as well I just though an adjustable clock in the same location wouldn't take up to much space and wouldn't require much more then what is already in EVE.

This I agree with, that's why I think the server time should by default be above the time that is local or you should have to scroll over the server time to get local time.

I have a little local time clock down in the bottom right hand of my screen called the system tray.... it's great.

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

No.
Local time clock is not functional to the game so no reason to be on the UI.

Beside: what we have now is that's not a trivial "server time" is New Eden Time. Part of Eve universe, immersion and history.
Generations of players grown with it.

I am not saying that the time is trivial or anything like that however it is still the servers time. I play full screen so System tray is not an option for me. I am not saying to take out the New Eden clock or the Server time. I am simply saying add another clock to the UI which wont interfer with the game at all seeing as you can plainly see the difference on the clocks

I'm ok with it, if it's optional.

That said, I do not need it and wouldn't use it.

Wow, so many trolls against something optional that takes no resources to implement and has no downside.

I should have the choice to set time to wherever I want. Whether it's "functional" is my problem. My computer, my choice. Don't like it? Leave it at GMT on your own client. What gives you the right to arbitrarily dictate my time on my client via UI restriction?Roll

The issue really isn't the fact of not know what your current time is. As many people have said, you can just look at your menu bar, cable box, wristwatch, etc.

The biggest issue I face is when looking at the calendar of scheduled ops that my Alliance is running and trying to do the conversions in my head to figure out what local time that will be for me.

It would be extremely helpful, anytime an interface window is open that uses an EvE-time display, to have your local time also displayed in parenthesis immediately following the EvE time. This local time would be set in your preferences once and would just automatically display the conversion on all in-game time references.

Not a problem. I'm surprised you don't have a time piece in your house.

GMT is an easy time to use for Eve and the same for all.

As I tried to explain: No, is not "your" problem. And that's not the local time of the player, is the New Eden TIme, and element of the game. Not only useful (it gives a unique time reference for everyone) and is also part of the game world lore: it's the IC (in character) time. Not the real world time.

Since 10 years people use that time reference, in that way for game events and needs. See:

CTA tomorrow.
Fleet form up at 21.00 New Eden Time

If one feels uncomfortable and prefer to have his local time then THIS is his own problem. And, being his own problem, is up to him to fix it.

You want a programmer to write code into the game that would "do the math of adding or subtracting hours from the in-game time", instead of just doing it yourself?

I am -6 GMT/EVEST (sometimes -5 depending on DST changes). So when I see EVEST at 20:43, it takes less than a nano-second for me to turn that into 14:43 (15:43) in my head. And you're telling me that your brain cannot adjust to this simple math in a few seconds? I find this hard to believe because I feel you are a very capable person that can easily handle this simple task of basic arithmetic.

If that is not the case, then I am very sorry that you have to experience the difference in time with such limitations. However, you do have many options available to correct this that won't take the time of a programmer to write lines of code to change this for you. And will literally put the victory of overcoming this handicap in your hands!

1. Run the client in windowed mode.
2. Alt-tab / Windows Key to view taskbar
3. A clock on your desk or located in another easy to view location from your desk.
4. Your phone or tablet or other computer/laptop near your desk.
5. Wall clock above your desk.
6. Wrist watch or pocket watch.
7. Television / Cable box / VCR / DVD player located near to the desk or located in another easy to view location.
8. Employ an assistant to update you on the time.
9. Ask in your TeamSpeak channel for regular time updates.

Thank you.

I think we can all agree that the problem isnt the eve time. The problem is you all live in the wrong bit of the world.
