emergency warp stop (stopping mid-warp, balanced by some penalty)

I always wondered why we never had an Exit Warp button on our ships... We once lost an ity 5 in a WH full of half a bill of minerals where this exact feature could have saved it.

We where making our usual trip to highsec, offloading the goods. I was watching the WH to make sure its safe. I gave the all-clear and the Ity 5 proceeds to warp. As soon as they warp out, a Tengu comes through the WH and throws up a bubble. The Ity 5 pilot was warned but could do nothing but wait for certain death even though all the information was there. Apparently someone was watching our POS in a cloaky, and was using a tactic designed around the fact that ships cannot exit warp prematurely. Certainly from a role play perspective this feature should be available, but I understand that it would limit PVP opportunities a bit.

the bubble acts as a slump for the comps just saying 'popping' the bubble is a bad idea lore wise.

Now being able to cancel the warp desitation I wouldnt mind seeing.

Dust 514's CPM 1 Iron Wolf Saber Eve mail me about Dust 514 issues.

thx for this very nice example! It would just mean that it escalates to another level.

if they have scouted you and know there should be a loaded iteron arriving in a few seconds - which actually does not arrive (lol, what surprise that would be first place) - they can assume its dead in the waters for some time now. so the tengu could have

- fired up the scanner to find the iteron and drop on him
- maybe you could be able to "see" somewhat like 6 AU ahead when you are in warp and get the option to take BM of stuff you see along the path? thus warped to your pos and then back to the BM of the stranded iteron?

Well, What I meant by "limit pvp opportunities" was that people will have to put in more effort to actualy engage ships that see a trap coming and exit warp. The net result will be fewer PVP encounters overall. And this is not necessarily a bad thing... It might just make things more balanced.

is a nice idea but the penalty should be higher. Like 100% damage to random modules etc.

something like an emergency warp rig would be even cooler which is destroyed after activation. You warp in the direction the ship is flying with +2(maybe more?) warp strength and stop somewhere in space. This should also empty your cap.

In addition, a beacon should go up visible to everyone in system (much like a cyno) announcing a ship in distress, with your ship unable to move for 2 minutes.

I don't like that. The idea is to give you a chance at saving your ass in the face of near certain death. Exchanging one form of suicide for another doesn't seem like a good idea... This should require a bit of effort for both parties. The ship in distress had to gather intel, and the ppl tracking them down need to do the same. A beacon would make the entire feature moot.

Hmmm having the wish to stop mid warp is usually pvp related. Hench.. having something ******** as 80% damage to your ship (which renders your ship useless for pvp) is imho out of the question.

I would much rather see the penalty related to heat damage, that would translate into a time penalty, item damage penalty and increase in nano paste demand.

Another additional penalty that I could think about would be a +/- 5-10 min reduction on cap recharge (something in the area of -80%), this means you will have a hard time getting out of directional scan range and have a serious hard time escaping combat probes.

All the other things mention in this thread are nice idea's, but the are so severe and permanent that nobody with the right mind would ever use this feature.
