Hey.. SO i have been doing levels 4 mission with Navy for a while now in my Drake.. But iam getting tired of it, and want to try something new.. I like passive tanking, so is it possible to Passive tank a Tengu?, and please..

I dont have a Gazzilion isk, so i can afford 1-2 bill loadout..

You could passive a Tengu, but your DPS will more than likely suffer horribly, in which case you should stay in the drake. If you are going to run a Tengu, DPS DPS DPS, speed speed, resistance, booster. done.

Got any fits for that then? :)

If you want to stick with passive tanking level 4's, and you've got the money to consider forking out for a Tengu, why not just buy a Rattlesnake instead?

One of, if not the best, passive tankers in game and can put out useful mission DPS.

You could try something like :

Quote:

[Tengu, Synth Alpha]

Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node
Tengu Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer
Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst
Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay

Medium Warhead Flare Catalyst II
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II
Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst II

There are many variations possible around the modules I sugget, and I am not pretending it is the best one around.

There's also a huge discussion around the Heavy Missile Launcher versus the Heavy Assault. With my skills its 715 DPS and 110 km range versus 874 DPS and 26 km range. Your choice.

But, if I were you, I would stick to the speed tank and to kinetic damages as you have bonuses.

Nathan

PS : I know, 4 BCS are useless, I just lacked inspiration for the last low slot as it's cap-stable.

Tengu work best actively tanked.
- because shield extenders and rigs increase your signature radius, which is a significant part of a Tengu's tank.
- because you'd rather use your 4 low slots for extra DPS, not tank

I mission(ed) extensively in a Tengu and I can tell you that speed and signature alone will allow you to tank most missions without using your shield booster even once. This one can tank the full aggro of every room in L4 missions.

The main differences between this and Nathan WAKE's setup:
1) I use mission specific (passive) hardeners, he has an omnitank
2) I only use 1 shield booster and my setup is cap stable
3) I use RoF rigs for more overall DPS, he uses rigs to shoot small targets slightly faster

Arent RoF rigs stacking penalized with BCU?

Yup. But the T2 version is higher in the stack and so unpenalized. BLA2s are one of the absolute best ways to bump DPS on a ship that already has 4 BCUs.

2 gist b small boosters......a nicely priced active tank for a tengu. For the above fit with them, you could pull the boost amps. I ran without them and its workable if you want to throw in tp or something. Only mission I hated with setup was worlds collide tbh. Only becasue they drop you in some crowded rooms that can push the shields hard. rest of them if you keep up the speed tank you could not be breaking even 50% shields very often.

Also remember with passive tank you get sig radius bloom. Give or take there for avoiding fire. Or avoiding probers looking for tengu's Granted they took away unprobable. BUt a nice low sig radius measn you eliminate more than half the probers out there who are low skill or impatient.

3 or 4 bcu pick whats for you. I run 3. 4th low is sensor backup array. Used to be for unprobbale now to be ahrd to find (I prefer if peple find me they actually have to wrok for it lol) and anti jamming. 4th bcu damage was not omfg boosts to want a swtich out as well. jsut my personal tastes though.

My alt did level 4 in this fit with minimal skills. Orbit the warp-in beacon at 5 km or the next gate at 500 m (gates are huge), and shoot smallest to largest, giving priority to webbers. I ignored triggers and had no problems.

You can use T1 launchers, but that really is a crime on a Tengu.

Well, in that case, you can easily afford one.

You can build a very decent Tengu with Faction mods for less than the 2 billion you are willing to spend. My Tengu cost me around a billion, and that can handle any LVL4 with ease.

Why did you think you had to spend >2 Billion ISK to buy and fit out a Tengu? Somebody has been telling you porkies methinks.

Faction fits on a tengu for level 4 missions is way overkill. I have ran every single HS level 4 in a pure T2 fit. Faction stuff was only ever useful for me in a wormhole where the isk being generated exceeded the possibility of losing that 2bil fit. That being said, I do make use of Domination boost amps, due to having shield comps at 5. Quick and easy fit below.

[Tengu, T2]
Power Diagnostic System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
(Standard stuff here. PDS gives a little cap boost which is always fun.)

Shield Boost Amplifier II
Domination Magnetic Amplifier
Domination XXXXXX Amplifier
Domination XXXXXX Amplifier
10MN Afterburner II
Medium Shield Booster II
(Passive shield resists. Easy to fit, with shield comps 5 is best resists for the cash. Got 2 of each resistance type off the market in Jita for about 10mil each. Fit the other 2 Domination Amps for mission type)

Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
(No need for faction or T2 ammo)

Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Medium Warhead Flare Catalyst I
(Found this works the best for me, little bit of cap, little bit of extra missile helping)

Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node
Tengu Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer
Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay
Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst
(Standard level4 loadout)

Total bill runs under 600mil. Never had a problem even partially AFKing missions. Orbit something at 5-10k, turn on the AB, start shooting. Never had shields drop below 50% without webbing frigates or poor choices happening.
