Who else watches netflix via VPN to see, say, USA content from France. Is it....errrr.......safe?

It's VPN after all, not IP masking nor anything like that. For all intents and purposes, you are as good as in the USA.
The only concern should be the speed of the connection from wherever you are to the USA-based VPN location.

I have been using http://www.unblock-us.com/ for a few months now and it's worth the extra 5 bucks a month. I am in Canada. They have a one week free trial you can try. Zero issues.
