Bandwidth Needs of EVE

Hello all!

I am in the process of setting up several PCs to run EVE. I am shooting for about 20 PCs running the EVE client at one time and am going to host a little party in my town. Before I go through all the trouble of setting all this up and the network not be able to handle the traffic, I am calling out to whoever will listen and know to help me with the technical specifications for the bandwidth needed to run that many clients at the same time.

I have seen that this has been done at past Fanfests, so if someone from CCP can weigh in with some general guidance, that would be very much appreciated.

The technical specifications do not give me the detail that I need to make this decision. It states only: ( • Network: ADSL connection or faster ).

If I can get the requirements in terms that would let me know that the game experience will be worth the trouble using my existing infrastructure, I will start setting this up.

If I should have posted this in a different topic area, I apologize in advance.

Thank you all in advice,

J

Google is hard to use eh?

Literally the first result on google was ~6 kb down n up needed per client.

I must say CCP did a very good work when coding bandwitch related stuff, as I was able to play EVE even on dial-up GPRS connection using mobile phone as a modem and there wasnt a single issue with that. So with any reasonable connection you should be ok.

Eve basement get togethers, only eclipsed in sadness by Furry conventions.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Thank you all so much for your replies!

Farming? LOL no...more of a recruitment party.

Google? No...sorry...I didn't use Google first. I came to the company's website that created EVE. Lessen learned there. Next time I will look and see what the general public might have rather than the possibility of a legitimate support agent from the company that makes the game.

Thank you all that replied. This information will help me very much.

Fly safe all.

Seriously dude, you can figure out how to power 20 PC's plus ancillaries in your home but you can't figure out your own bandwidth requirements?!?

OK, here's what you do. Get a bandwidth meter, there are gadgets in windows for that, google it. Run it. Make sure you're not torrenting or streaming pr*n or anything. Now fly around New Eden, go park in Jita. After a few minutes you should have an idea of your bandwidth requirements for one player. It may require maths but don't be afraid.

Also, if you're going to start a isk farming operation it'd be better to use VM's. On a good machine you can get 4 running easily. Should save you some power usage. Don't forget Synergy to replicate your keystrokes either. Feel free to tip me some isk for saving you hardware and power costs, mmkay?

Don't ban me, bro!
