This will be my second day in Eve, I learned about this Universe through DUST 514. There is so much to learn, but I'm looking forward to it!

My question is PLEX, I figured it was like DUST and purchased 2 PLEX to sell for isk hoping I could have start off with some funds in my pocket. My problem is, I can't sell them, it's telling me I need to pay 6 million isk per PLEX. What should I do? Just accept missions till I have that? How long does it take to earn 5 million for a new player?

Run the career agents (all 5) and you'll likely have that amount of ISK. Run the Sisters of Eve epic arc (starts in Arnon) and you'll definitely have enough.

Just don't fall for PLEX trading scams (contract/direct trade) and do not move those PLEX out of the station they are in.
Also, a brand new player has little need for a billion ISK. Your expenses are fairly low (frigates are cheap). Don't go blow that ISK on stuff that you can't fly properly. Eve rule 1 - don't fly what you can't afford to lose, consider your ship lost when it undocks.

Heya Aedesius! Welcome to the game :D Here is your complimentary cookie and rookie ship! May I refer you to my guide if you are interested in learning more about the game? A prior warning, it's a bit of a read :P

What you ar etalking about is the market/broker fee. Similar to Ebay, the EVE market takes a portion of your sale. If you are selling an item that costs a lot you are going to have to pay more for the sale.

It depends on what you do, you could ask around to join in on any level 4 missions people are running and you will have that cash in no time (providing they share their funds) or you could continue doing the tutorial missions, collect the free ships you are given and sell them or alternatively find a nice person (like me) to lend you the money until you can pay it back once the sales have gone through!

Note: I'd be happy to lend you the money.

Welcome to New Eden.
You know you really don't need to sell them to enjoy and play the game though.
Each Plex is worth 550m right now, and the ships you'll be flying for months cost 1-20m each.
Don't blow it all on stuff that will make you a big flashy target to griefers.

Newbies plexing, tha naïvité :p (don't take this to be offensive it's not, you have no reason to know any better)

My advice is this:
Those plexes, redeem them for game time, don't bother with them for at least for more months, there's no way you should be flying anything worth more than 100mill before that time. (Honestly I'd go so far as to say to not even plex in the first year)
Moreover, if you just plex your account you're going to be losing millions of isk to learn key lessons which you would normally only lose some hundreds fo thousands of isk on.

Also get familiar with the market before attempting to sell anything over 5 million.

And once you do decide to sell plexes, get those plexes bound to your character when you are in jita, so you don't have to sell it a lot cheaper than you have to in an out of the way station. Because moving plexes in a ship is a very very bad idea.

Edit: fixed my atrocious spelling (I blame my phone)

Always remember this bit of advice.

Just as in real life, there are Taxes and Middlemen (Brokers) taking a slice of the pie when you put something up for sale.

( insert bitter vet voice ) Back in my day we didnt have plex to blow for huge amounts of ISK, infact we mined for hours for our first frigate and ran level 1 missions in our rookie ships, we had to painstakingly get our first bits of gear or use stuff salvaged from the cans of our enemys, took me a full day to get into my first frigate and it felt good to ahve passed that first hurdle, you youngins get ships modules and skills thrown at you now and now have plex to amass rediculus amounts of isk for you to squander on skilling into sitting in a battleshp befoe you can fly in a matter of weeks.
back in my day battleships were a rare sight and took you ages to amass the wealth to even sit in one of them.

(now without the bitter old vet voice)

on a more serius note welcome to EVE ^_^ you have a myrid amount of ways to make 6 mill like mission running as you said, there is also mining and industry, day trading, and many any more, but in all honesty i would hold onto those plex cards for now, you have no need for that amount of cash at the moment and you may want to a bit later use them for extra game time or keep them in reserve, what useualy happens is when someone gets all that cash is they race to the biggest most expensive things they can find before they have an understanding of what they do and find they are loseing expensive ships that are poorly fitted and sueualy used for a compleatly differnt purpose than what the ship was intended,

on another note DO NOT MOVE PLEX IN SHIPS, you will lose them in ships, people will not hesitate to suicide gank you for them especuly while your still flying less resiliant ships.

Do tutorials and read them like a lawyer on the hunt. Dont do anything with those PLEX yet. You should learn how to play in cheap gear. Expensive stuff just makes for embarrasing lossmails.

Great guide, kudos.

To put it explicitly -- people can scan your ship. They can see what you're carrying. They can choose to attack you, even when you are in "safe" space (no such thing really exists).

They will get blown up by the police, but will consider it worth it if they get a billion isk worth of PLEX.

Well...This.

A new player can / should only fly smaller ships until he has the skills and knowledge to fly bigger stuff.

Bigger is NOT always better.

More expensive stuff like officer mods are better but also A LOT more expensive and will paint a VERY big crosshair on your ship for gankers to shoot at.

So, in my opinion, do you need that 500mil: No.
Could you use some extra starting money: Sure, it helps but that can easily be obtained with in game activities.

We teach people what they want to learn, and what they need to know to be successful EVE. Feel free to point to where we are being 'risk averse' though, Mr NPC corp.

And our "huge queue" is actually pretty short, considering the amount of work that goes on by our volunteer recruitment staff.

As a non-dustie, is there a DUST514 equivalent to the clueless guy in a faction-fit battleship they don't know how to fly effectively?

I've been playing the open and closed beta...So far I haven't seen that "option". But it's a beta and still a W.I.P.

CCP may add idiots later onP

EDIT:

No offense to the OP cause he could be a good guy. But ever since Dust went from Closed beta (only EVE players) to Open (any PS3 owner can play) I saw a massive drop in intelligence and a huge spike in bunny hopping, swearing teenagers.

So I don't think that Dust is the game for me. I hope it will prosper but the kinds of people I see now usually have a very very short attention window, specially for games.

Give it time, someone will eventually find a way to do just that.
