A great read. I still wish they were fortnightly and came with the artwork, however. :)

I think the contention was that they won't be eradicated. From an in-game perspective this may justify why mercenaries cannot just vanish. The same way that NPC corporations cannot simply remove capsuleers corporations or the pilots themselves.

It comes as no surprise to me that a power-player like Heth lacks the finesse necessary to deal with this situation. May the demise of his State be long and marked by paroxysm, spasm, and violence.

Uh, Heth was a Home Guard grunt that got first sent to station duty (which is the Corporate Security equivalent to being sent to Antarctica), and then messed up and got fired. After that, he was essentially a forklift operator in a steel factory, and got set up as a dictator of the state by Istv--- I mean, the Broker. He seems to have a knack on naming competent people to help him, though. The first guy (Janus Bravour, IIRC) was probably very competent, and therefore, assasinated very quickly.

This is just excellent. So many things in there to ponder about. Seems like there is some more meddling going on.

No, but it gives an excellent role play reason for DUST players to develop their character as they please (those that care anyway).

"I was a loyal soldier, but Heth tried to kill me! Die Heth!"
"Heth was wrong, I'm still loyal, but forced to work as merc for the good of the State"
and so on...

As the caldari dusti'es can't be eradicated as Heth is ordering (Would leave only 3 races of dusties), it stands to (tinfoil) reason that Heth's order will not be followed by the military

Which means ?
- Civil war? (those siding with Heth vs those siding with the military)
- The military taking over?

Either way, it seems to indicate that Heths reign is soon-to-be over?
To be replaced by what?

- and : Will the broker sit back and let that happen? - or is it even part of his plan

(my tinfoil hat isn't BIG enough to answer that bit)

It would be interesting if the story had an ongoing impact on players in EVE game....at least a couple of missions.

As NPC-NPC play that never influences game play...eh I would rather see it set in another universe.

Well it's being played out through Live Events.

Also, it seems like Heth isn't being quite the villain we've been casting him as. He's having clone soldiers executed, those are the targets of his bombardments, and they've become targets because they have actually be carrying out attacks on both his military and civilians.

In other words, he may actually be completely in the right and just failing to communicate that.

The fleets aren't to surpress rioters, they're to deal with immortal soldiers who have gone rogue!

The question is, what's so important about the planet and cities named in the Chronicle?

Tibus Heth, Executor of the Caldari Providence Directorate and de facto leader of the Caldari State, sat alone in the waiting room of Dr. Yoshun's Corporate & Family Practices. He fanned himself with a plain brown filing folder that bore neither label nor seal. The breeze it created was slight, though it was a gust compared to the pitiable whimper of the room's climate control unit.

When they kill the few people you trust, you kinda turn on the "fock it" mode.

That´s why the names are important.
