Ship Hauling - Where do I start?

I am looking for the quickest way to get into Hauling, don't mind what race I pick, or what ship, just whichever is the quickest way to get me into a hauler to start transporting ships.

What would you suggest as the best stats to invest straight away, and a decent hauler ship build that will last me the initial start?

if we're talking cruiser and above, there is no way around a freighter. for frigate and destroyer hulls, you might get by with an orca.

I should buy an Ishtar.

i have to agree, for ship haulage around empire, the Orca is pretty mcuh theo nyl option for cruiser and small hulls, i think it can fit a single BC in there also.

Any racial industrial can transport a few packaged ships.
If you plan on carrying fitted ships though, Start with an orca, then you have to go out of high-sec and go for (super)carriers otherwise, if you go with a freighter, you need to courrier contract the ships to yourself via an alt and thus lose the insurance.

An Iteron V can ship a packaged battlecrusier. Anything less than BC you can hold two or more.

Fitted ships need an Orca or Carrier.

Start the day off slow and taper off from there.

Basically once you reach lvl V in any of the regular transport ships you can train for freighters of the race you chosen to train to V.
Orca will be more involved with training so you're fastest way is what I wrote above.

I believe the biggest cargo hold is the Caldari Charon but slowest speed.

Don't start with ships?

Go with pretty much any industrial

Then find a product that will sell for more at detonation than it did at source.
Then work out how much profit you make and divide that by the number of jumps you have to go.
Then work out which gives you the best profit.

When you have enough, buy a freighter and do it with ships.

To answer your question directly though:
Amarr is the fastest to start flying indy's the same day, but the Gallente Iteron5 is far and away the best indy ship in the game, and worth the 2 weeks to train for. and you can fly the Gallente Freighter the next day.
Otherwise everything already saidis good advise.

Should also have said the Iteron5 can be fitted to make an effective poor mans Blockade Runner as well for cargo runs in and out of lowsec.

Well...

3 basic options:

1.) Orca.

2.) Industrial ships (small to medium sized cargo, not a very very high tank) - I prefer Amarr (Search for the Humble bestower thread) and Gallente (cause the Iteron Mark V is the biggest of them all).

3.) Freighter. No matter what you choose they are slow as hell but quite big. Caldari has the biggest, Minmatar has the one who is the least slow of them all.

Alternatively to training Racial Industrial to 5 you can wait untill the summer 2013 update goes live. Unless I misread I think they will lower the preq's for freighters to Industrial 3.

To fill the time untill then, train for the Orca. ;-)

Are we not able to alt web a freighter and have them insta warp to the next gate anymore? (last I played in 2006 it was how we moved them). Last I checked an Obelisk had 750,000 m3 (w/o skills added) which can haul a lot of ships which used with a webber could be nearly un-catchable in high-sec. (may have also changed)

I'm training my alt to a freighter just to carry loads of stuff when I need to which is like 1x every couple mos.
