Completely changing Ships, Time for variants? MkI, MkII...

Sorry guys but its CCP been lazy, its not about balance, its about wanting to make new ships but deciding to remove old ones so they can reuse the game models. Having Variants would allow them to do it but not take away peoples toys.

More ship choices are a good thing.


The reason they made Prophecy a drone boat and Cyclone a missile boat is that now all races have complete line-ups (battleships will be next, don't worry) for two weapon systems.

Too easy to have a clear "line of progression", simple minded change for simple minded players.

Tiers were bad, but spoon feeding players with what ship to fly next is fail.

on the other hand, having a player progress along certain skills only to find their chosen weapons' line ends and they have to start all over again is completely ******* stupid

Changing a Cyclone do a missile ship isn't about balance, it was because they wanted a minmatar battlecruiser with missiles. If it was about balance, they could have just increased the Cyclones tank. (if it was worse than others of its class).

You say the changes are for balance, I call bull! Its about making new ships but using old hulls. Now if a ship is overpowered, it gets a nerf, not a complete remake with new weapons and such. Making a variant of an old OP ship isn't what I am asking, but you my dear trolls will latch on to any ridiculous idea and run with it as if its what the person is asking for. I said several times that I don't want to keep unbalanced and overpowered ships, They get fixed and rightly so. I am asking for the balanced ships to stay in game when they get completely changed.

That is a good thing, no matter what your little troll brains may think.

Of course it's about balance. The Cyclone was too weak, and the Tornado/Hurricane made it redundant. Now it has been re-balanced into a useful ship. Balance isn't just about nerfing, sometimes balancing stuff means improving it, or changing it entirely.

And increasing the tank wouldn't balance the Cyclone, it would still be terrible. There simply isn't a role left for a third projectile turret BC, so just making minor changes to the Cyclone won't solve the problem.

No, it's a terrible thing. It increases complexity for no benefit to anyone who isn't obsessively afraid of change. You are probably the only person who wants to keep the old Cyclone for anything other than collector value, and it's ridiculous to suggest that CCP spend time figuring out a way to keep the old version around just so you can spin it in your hangar occasionally.


Oh, and how do you propose to decide who gets upgraded and who doesn't? Does CCP need to come up with some kind of "redeem item" thing to trade old Cyclones for new ones? Or are all the people who currently have Cyclones/Cyclone blueprints/etc just stuck with a terrible ship because you want to keep yours?
