Showing a devastated New York with "We Are the World" muzak playing. This right before a scheduled nuclear missile "test" targeting the US.

Meanwhile the US is preoccupied with... whatever it is they're doing in the middle east. All this is clearly no cause for alarm.

Here's a translation.

More "industrial-grade WTF" than chilling.

*shrug*
North Korea produces a lot of crappy propaganda like that. It'd be more worrisome if they started producing *good* propaganda.

They missed the bit where the NATO BMD shoots their missile down.

Think of it as akin to the runt size kid at school who talks like he's the biggest **** around. Nobody will care about him until he actually throws a punch, which will be deflected with ease and he will promptly be beat down. Korea has been throwing anti-US propaganda out there for decades, the only reason why its suddenly news is because they want it to be news.

p.s. We do it also, only we create quality items like a recent remake of a well known 80's movie.

The sprinklings of Pixie Dust were a curious touch.

Mostly, the film kept reminding me of Vera Lynn singing "We'll Meet Again" at the end of Dr. Strangelove.

You call *that* quality..?! o_0

Oh, wait... you're comparing it to NK's output. Based on that, the recent remake is Oscar-worthy. P

I don't think 'Elder Sibling' China will allow it to go down quite the way North Corea is advertising.

Agreed. PRC would much dislike being downwind of fallout, which is why I don't worry much.

I haven't actually seen the movie because I've debated if its worth the $20 to go watch. But I do know that when the original came out it was Russia as Russia was the enemy in every movie back then thanks to the cold war, and now we're seeing NK as the new bad guy.

We also do video games and call them Homefront.

Yeah, well NK was a distant second-choice.
The completed movie was actually advertised for realease - billboards and all, with PRC as the baddies. Then it got pulled. And it sat. And sat. And sat. Finally, the distribution company was sold, and to get the turkey off their shelf, the new owners decided that NK would fit the bill, and called in the digital editors. Along the way, Mira and Shadow mostly got cut. Sad

N. Korea acts in such an improvisational and spontaneous manner, there really is not much at all we can do, really. And that's not a failing on anyone's part.

We can only deal with the aftermath of their actions, whatever they may be.

Kinda like the Drunk Waistcoat Dude at the Sledgehammer CD Release Party.
Dude was completely in his own world, flailing and kicking at things no one else could see. At the same time, he was un-coordinated and feeble, and I doubt he could've hit anything substantial even if he were aiming at it.

We all kinda by unspoken mutual consent did our slamming *around* him, leaving him his own space to do his own thing. Any time he looked like he'd actually hurt himself or someone else, a couple of us would grab his arms, hoist him up, and move him back to his little bubble - kicking and flailing all the while

I don't think he'll ever understand just how gently he was treated that night - By folks as could've crushed him in one hand.
I feel that NK is in exactly his shoes.

That goes against the popular rationale for fighting terrorists in the middle east. We're told it's supposed to be about stopping them from carrying out attacks instead of waiting for them to attack. And they're way ahead of North Korea in terms of improvisation.

Here we have a country threatening the US in this manner, but the threats of small badly organized groups in the mid east is more dire somehow? We don't even know if any of them have nukes, but we're sure North Korea does.

It doesn't make a lick of sense.

Difference being, you were more-or-less in control of yourself, so got no special treatment. Blink

See, most terrorist operations, whilst following insane logic, are following a logic, which can be interperted and predicted. NK, OTOH, doesn't even follow it's own insane logic, and therefor cannot be easily predicted.

Edit:
Oh, and some of those 'small' organizations have income an order of a magnitude greater than NK's income. Not to mention better diplomatic ties, better (for certain values of 'better') organization, and smarter, more motivated minds working for them. So hell yeah, they're a bigger threat.

They've been promising revenge on America for splitting Korea in two, while building the second largest army in the world. You don't have to be Nostradamus to predict where this is probably going. All the threats and claims from the mid east are dubious, but here is a country which there is no doubt has the means to do what it claims it's going to do.

The only insane logic is what the NK government tells its citizens, who are severely neglected because as much money as possible goes towards building their war machine. It's unlikely they're just going to one day decide to forgive the US and disband that army.

Actually, the figures on wiki are now showing the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" with a military force of 9,495,000 soldiers, surpassing China's 4,585,000. Making them easily the biggest army now. I'm not sure if someone is screwing with the figures, but it's been a reliable source in the past. In comparison the US has just under 3 million.

Interesting, but what game could it be from? Homefront wasn't made by Activision.

Some investigation is in order.

According to this, it's official.

The complaint is constant. The actions are not. the actions are all over the map. Unilateral negotiations. Multilateral negotiations. Limited parties negotiations. Aid. No aid. Aggress. Retreat. Sell crap to random countries. Antagonize. Ignore. Twiddle thumbs. Irritate off sole ally. Ignore sole ally. Suck up to sole ally. Attempt rapprochement. Litterally blow rapprochement up.

As for actually carrying out their threats? Mostly impotent. They have caused small-scale harm, and individually some of their soldiers are quite capable. But that's not enough to rate them a serious threat to anyone except south Korea, and South Korea has a class-act military.

Eventually, they may become a realistic threat to Japan. Maybe.

Yeah, cause pretty much every adult male who can draw breath and walk 100 yards is counted in those figures. Numbers, even huge numbers, do not a threat make. Remember the leader of Iraq (Curiously, the filters zap his name. Weird) and his four-and-a-half million man army? Beat by an effective force less than a fifth it's size. IOW: Numbers: Yawn.

Edit:
Realistically, the only real power NK has is it's power to be a constant irritant. They want to be bought off. But they won't stay bought off, beacuse they figure they can be bought off a second time if they're annoying enough. It's not working entirely well, but well enough that they're not ready to quit the game.

Sources for the figures are all there, if you want to challenge those. The changes since i last checked could be updates.

Iran very likely could be faking things, because they have a history of photoshop use, but who knows. NK on the other hand actually does have pretty much every grown male in their military, so they wouldn't even have to count civilians to reach those numbers.
