More people just need to put it out there. I have read in dozens of places to align to the celestial most "in your path" to avoid gatecamps etc, but only one time that when your ship is stopped, it doesn't matter what you warp to. Which makes all the posts discussing "align time" on a ship make much more sense. There are just too many idiots parroting misinformation.

put hobgoblins in your drone bay.

deploy drones, go afk until cargo is full. repeat until you can fly something that isn't as horrible as the venture.

The best way to mine aligned is to plot a pair of opposing "warp out" points in-line with your asteroid belt of choice with a fast ship, saving the bookmarks. You'll also want to bookmark the last asteroid on either end of the belt. Then when you mine, you align to "warp out A." When you reach the end of the asteroid belt you warp to "warp out A" and warp back to the end asteroid. Now align to "warp out B" and continue mining. When you reach the end of the belt, warp to "war out B" and then warp back to the asteroid on that end of the belt.

If somebody neutral lands or decloaks in your belt, warp to the "warp out" you are aligned to. If you do, you will enter warp immediately, appearing as "invulnerable" to your potential attacker. Every time.

Now you don't even have to tank your terrible mining ship. You're welcome.

Along with this, you can avoid the long slow drive from beacon to 'mining range' by establishing a 'turning point' bookmark some 200 - 250km above or below the belt proper. Also set points along the belt at convenient distances. When you arrive, warp to your 'turning point,' then choose the belt point closest to the rock you desire, and warp to it. when all rocks in range have been melted, warp to the turning point, then warp back to the next BM. Won't help much in a Venture, but much faster for the slower barges. Especially useful for ice belts, which are pretty massive. Also provides more options for escape when teh genkers arrive - And they will arrive.

Get used to the idea now that you will be ganked - and likely podded, too. It shouldn't need to be said, but I'll say it anyway: Don't mine with expensive ships unless you're wealthy. Don't mine with expensive implants, either - unless you're wealthy.

you can be in a real barge with strips in about 9 days from new character.

a real barge can be a retriever holding 25km3 ore and having 5 drones in the dronebay

venture is good for ninja mining, you dont need to ninja mine in a 0.6

This is simple and may or may not have been posted because i didn't actually read any of the posts. Just find a belt with a Hulk/ret/mackinaw that has their drones active. They will take out the rats for you. so long as they don't mind you occupying a small corner of their belt.

I yield tank my mining fleet.

Note that you can slow your ship down to 75% of maximum speed and still warp out immediately. You can slow down further by fitting armour plates, but this restricts other fitting. Thus with a Hulk you will cover about 4km per minute. With a range of 25km you will have about five minutes to extract ore from any rock, just pick the ones furthest "ahead" of you and stop the laser when the rock falls too far behind.

Another option is to mine in mission space, especially when that space is accessed through acceleration gates: this buys you 30 seconds of advance warning. Either park a covops at the gate and watch that screen, or spam D-scan. If you are using T3 OGB, you could park that on grid with the gate, just keep it some hundreds of km away from the gate to avoid long range gankers.

Well, this *is* a NewBro we're talking about / to. Hulks and cloaky ships are a bit out of his reach at the moment, though this is good advice for later.

Seriously, upgrade to a Barge - Procurer or Retriever are easy enough to get into, and the necessary skills won't be so SP-expensive that you're locked into a mining career.

In general, mining drones are not as effective as they may seem on paper. This is because of the travel time to and from. Even if you are sitting on a rock at 0, the drones orbit it, and are likely on the far side when they need to return to drop off ore.

I'd drop the mining drones and go with a couple light scout drones. Just watch them carefully as the NPCs now are very aggressive about attacking your drones.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

I'm not talking about mining. Just the fact that when your ship is at a dead stop, there is no time difference in warping to a celestial directly in front of you or behind you, the time to initiate warp is the same. I'm sure if I had mined anything after my first 24 hours in the game, this might be useful, so, uh, thanks?

Also, once you have your Orca, stay out of player corps. You don't really need them because the tax doesn't apply to mining. NPC corps are 100% better for miners, no war dec's or awoxing corp killers to worry about.
