As for your OOC question:

I'm loving it as well, and it doesn't feel rail roady to me at all. I've been able to do what I wanted to do, so I view it quite like an open sandbox and I love sandboxes. :)

Loving it here also. It's a great story with a lot of depth and twists. Now I'm wondering about the other paths we could have taken.... Smile

I'm also enjoying this very much. I love RP and telling stories, it's a passion for me. I'm very glad that I started to view EVE as a world that I can get into and really RP in, I haven't had a good immersive RP in a while.

As for the progression, it's feeling very organic, I don't feel rail roady either. :3

It's been great so far, I'm loving it too =)
As for the railroading : huh ? ^^
If you're referring to the parts in your mails where you guess our characters actions... well it's unavoidable, I guess, if we want the plot to advance a tad faster -and those guesses pretty much nailed it as far as I'm concerned Big smile

What do you mean with anchor, Adreena? Only translation I can find is what boats use to stop. :? do you mean you'll be moving around me? What am I missing?

Anchor is a fleet term for the steady tank ship which smaller speed-tanked ships can orbit. I'm sure Amarrian fleet doctrine doesn't support that tactic. ;P

I'll expand a little bit on that.

As AstraPardus has correctly noted, "anchor" is a well-tanked ship that other, more reliant on speed tanking, ships can orbit. This is done to prevent individual ships from going too far away from each other and the main fleet. It also serves a secondary role that enables the anchor ship to dictate the distance to target for the whole fleet (or just the ships that are anchored on it).

For example, a commandship can be used as an anchor for the logistics ships in the fleet, firstly so that the logistics ships in question could focus solely on repairing the fleetmates and leave the range keeping and maneuvering on the battlefield for the anchor ship, secondly this ensures that the logistics ships (that usually work in pairs) stay in range of each other and of the main fleet itself. Without a set anchor it is not uncommon for individual logistics ships to wander out of others' support range and easily fall prey to the enemy because the pilot wasn't paying enough attention to the distance from the main fleet.

Good to know. I used to do that as a FC, but never actually called it anchor, just said "orbit me" or similair things. Good to know there's a term for it. :)

Yay I'm done with the battle. I think you guys did well enough. When I rolled to see the damage the drones did that alpha the wraith took when the second wave warped in I was very worried. Good thing Astra had that RR

Railroading is a RPG term used to imply that the game master (me) does not let the players (you all) make any choices.

Its sometimes useful if the story needs to be moved forward but generally it makes the players feel that they are not as involved in the direction the story is going. As though they were simply aong for the ride not at the steering wheel.

Another +1 here Smile

Edit: Glad all the ships survived. I intended to use a point to re-roll the miss, but couldn't a post up in time. It probably wouldn't have affected the final outcome, but I'd have felt bad if I missed the re-roll and a ship popped.

The principle of modern FTL communication is based on "entangled quantum state" mechanics, and hence does not have any limits on distance, particle on one side transfers its state onto its pair wherever that paired particle is.

So far Adreena's explanation on why is the FTL comms not working is the most plausible one, prolonged phase-distortion of one paired particle could potentially break the entanglement bond between them. And i don't think you can restore the particle's state w/o the access to the sibling at least.

It is not uncommon for capsuleer ships to briedly lose connection to the FTL networks during jumps (via stargate or by own jump drive), but the connection is usually re-established in a matter of seconds after the disturbance has passed. I'm not sure if this is the cause of your current issues with the comms, nor whether the forces that did this to you are even alike.

My guess would be: whatever brought you where you are now also detangled the quantum state of your FTL communicator devices, so while they do appear to be functioning properly, the signal just doesn't get through. Your best shot would be to inspect the seed ship and see if you can salvage anything from it (that hasn't been yet salvaged by the rogue drones).

Thanks for the explanation Eija, I must admit I didn't know all the details though I do know most of the fiction (Seph doesn't, he's not good with the technical side of things xD). Good to know ships often lost connection during jumps, is that an IC explanation of the loading time between servers when you jump? :)

You're welcome.
I'm not 100% sure it is the canon explanation, but i'm fairly sure it's as close as one can get. And I'm a techie, both IC and OOC.
